Ben Ross

Would be very happy to have him here at the tigers… if he comes for $200K...

If he wants more than that well you'd really be risking a lot of money

I am sure those of you, who are advocating the signing of Ben Ross are not puting up one cent of your own money. For the last two years, Ross has been a liability, because he has been taking up a big part of the salary cap and producing little in return. I agree it is not his fault, but I do not believe the Tigers have the money or the room under the salary cap to pay out, say, $200,000 and get little in return. Therefore, they cannot afford to take the risk.

Very Average player post 2006.

I have not seen him outplay any Wests Tigers props from memory for a very long time.

But hey, beggers can't be choosers and i've been doing a fair bit of begging lately !!

I used to think Ben Ross was the next big thing at prop, but injuries have struck him down & he's never produced the way he did at Penrith for the Sharks.

He is worth some risk, but in the same breath, the Tigers might get just as much value from the aging Scott Logan- who would likely be cheaper to boot.

Watching the youngin's running around, I have hopes that John Fifita's nephew turns into a player- so any new prop we sign might only be a short term fix anyway. Ross for 2 years, or Logan, wouldn't be a bad gamble.

Would be a pretty good buy if he stays fit, better than all our options bar Galloway.

yeah, and put that nuffie gibbs back in NSW cup LOL. Ben Ross is a terrific player. However, he is injury vulnerable and we have to hope  that he can have a decent run of matches consecutively. Remember, like every other good player who is off contract in 2010, don't get your hopes up especially considering our recruitment record over the years.

Due to the lack of quality front rowers in the market place this bloke will command over 200 grand a year even with his history. I think even at 250 a season he would be a great pick up. We have been crying out since day one for a quality front row and that means four or five quality front rowers on our books. Galloway,Ross,Gibbs,Skando (worth another years)Payten,Laurie and a few of the kids like Davidson things would look pretty good

from sunday telegraph

"Ben Ross, almost fully recovered from the broken bones in his neck, has decided to play on next season. We're told the Rabbitohs, Panthers, Broncos and **Tigers** have **offered him incentive-based contracts in which he can earn about $200,000-a-year if he plays a certain number of first-grade games."**

Huge question mark over his sustainability in footy…no-one in their right mid wld pay more than a very modest sign on fee($100-150max)plus payment per game.
I wish him well, but given these doubts I think that sort of money is better invested by Tigers in young up & comers

Yeah but if he is injured or out of form playing in reggies all year then he doesn't get those bonuses and barely makes 100K. On an incentive based contract he is a bargain.

That'd be fantastic. Obviously he wouldn't activate the money unless he plays X amount of games. And if he does play X amount of games, then we have a good go foward prop playing well.

yep he is off to souths foe next year and beyond. geez they have been buying a few players. will have good forwards next year as they also bought dave taylor from bris. huge pack next year for the bunnies
