Bench use...

Yeah I don't think it's his strong suit. Hopefully Sheens can help him out with this. Completely agree with everything and I wish Blore would get more mins too

The original post is on the money. Rotation has been robotic all year with no feel for the game.

Parramatta pack has monstered teams all year and the made a number of our forwards look ordinary

Madge is stuck in 2014, the game has passed him by, and he seems no hope of catching back up

That's why bringing in a coach whose best years were in the 90's and early 2000's is sheer genius (sheenius). Things that old are generally retro and have worked their way back into fashion.

Sheens was always an innovator.

Usually i would agree but thought it was much better tonight, probably due to it been forced
Stefano 19th
Seyfarth 22nd
Blore came on 35th minute (replaced Garner)
Amone came on 55th minute (Agree would be nice to see more, but its his 2nd nrl game probably building up the minutes)

Tamou 53 meters ...completely dominated by Parra. They smashed him.

Amone 47 meters in way less mins.

Why not see Tamou was not up to it today and adjust?

Madge gets blurred vision when his blood pressure rises .
Tamou is shit .. I told everyone this when we signed him but everyone shouted me down ?

I believed you mate. King of the plodders. Waste of money. I don't care how much of a leader he is off the field, he's terrible on it

**Example one:**

Big Luc missed SIX tackles today...most at the end of halves. He gets tired.

Blore has missed ONE tackle in FIVE games...ONE. All season.

Why not give Blore 20 mins extra so that we have a defensive presence out there?

I know LL offers attack, but you can't keep carrying the missed tackles 30-40 min mark half time every game.

**Example two:**

RCG has monstered Tamou for multiple games now. Today he went for almost 100 m more than his old Panther's mate. Why not realise Tamou is badly matched up and get him off once it is clear RCG is dominating? Or even put him on the bench and start someone who can match RCG physically?

Great post.

People can't bury their heads in the sand on this. Maguire is killing us

One step forward two steps back.

Needs the riot act read to him and put on notice.

I not so sure it's any different to the way the majority of teams run a 4 man forward rotation..

The forwards got owned both starting and interchange bar Seyfarth..

Who's on or who's off made no difference specifically in the game..

The fact we had to invoke the 18th man shows there may have been a set plan but that went out the window..

I agree and I've said all year it's more about who is on with who..

He isn't that bad. He just isn't that good. I reckon naming him captain was stupid. He should be a bench forward at best for us. He should probably be going between the bench and state cup rotating our middle forwards.

This is what I think are our 2 bench plans. There is not a lot of flexibility when you have 8 interchanges, if you use them all and a player is injured you play with 12 or less.

Feel free to come up with a better plan.

Plan with 4 forwards
Interchange #1 - 20 min - Tamou off / Bench middle #1 on
Interchange #2 - 20 min - Ofahengaue off / Bench middle #2 on
Interchange #3 - 50 min - Twal off / Bench Middle #3 on
Interchange #4 - 60 min - Bench middle #1 off / Tamou on
Interchange #5 - 60 min - Bench middle #2 off / Ofahengaue on
Interchange #6 - 60 min - Tired 2nd rower off / Blore on
Interchange #7 - 60 min - Reserved for injury
Interchange #8 - 70 min - reserved for injury or 70th min. Tired middle forward off / Twal on

Plan with 3 forwards and hooker
Interchange #1 - 20 min - Tamou off / Bench middle #1 on
Interchange #2 - 20 min - Ofahengaue off / Bench middle #2 on
Interchange #3 - 20 min - Liddle off / 14 (Simpkin) on
Interchange #4 - 50 min - Twal off / Bench middle #3 on
Interchange #5 - 60 min - Bench middle #1 off / Tamou on
Interchange #6 - 60 min - Bench middle #2 off / Ofahengaue on
Interchange #7 - 60 min - 14 (Simpkin) off / Liddle on
Interchange #8 - 70 min - reserved for injury or 70th min. Tired forward off / Twal on

I'll probably cop a roasting for bringing this up but I have thought right from the beginning when they tried to speed the game up with the 6 agains that the interchange should have been increased to say 10 interchanges.

I think that would relieve some of the fatigue factors that result in accidental head knocks by tired defenders and go some way towards reducing some of the criticisms made by players complaining about the game becoming too fast and possibly resulting in more injuries, sin bins due to professional fouls, blow out scores etc.

I have mentioned this before...but it is a legitimate issue.

He has the players play set mins...they all come on / off same time each week barring injuries.

He never adjusts to the flow of the game.

Today it was really clear we were on the back foot badly the first 30 mins...Parra pack dominating, yet zero adjustments.

Amone brought on down 6-32...just pointless. Why even carry an extra big if you are going to sit them there until 20 to go / game is gone each week?

It was really, really obvious Parramatta's pack was dominating, yet Madge simply will not adjust to the flow of the game.

Big Luc falls off tackles every week 25 min mark on...why not give him a spell? He is out on his feet and his edge has leaked a try almost every week all season around the 25-35 min mark.

Why not play him 25 first / 25 sec...Taulomolo mins.

Our props were completely dominated early exchanges...no reaction.

Why not see we are being physically dominated and send on bench power whilst the game is still there?

Madge just never adjusts to the flow of the game.

No, I don't want him gone. But I do think we desperately need an assistant with some footy IQ who is in charge of the bench use / judges the momentum of games.

22 people have upvoted this post because it makes sense. The last paragraph, 'No, I don't want him gone....we need an assistant with some footy IQ' concerns me. Surely your head coach should possess footy IQ - otherwise what is he there for?

Wayne Bennet is not known as a great tactician. You never hear players talk about his tactical nous. He is a motivator and leader. He is smart enough to let Jason Demetriou run a lot of the sessions and in game tactics.

Don’t know why you got down voted.
You pose a fair question.
The coach talks about ebs and flows yet doesn’t use his bench effectively to manage them.

He has famous people using his ebbs and flows ...Nathan Buckley from Collingwood spoke twice about ebbs and flows
