Benji a great chance to take out Golden Boot

He is the one who tried to incorrectly correct me CB!

I was not the one who emphasised the word by placing it in quotation marks!

I am far from a spelling/grammar nazi on this forum - but I do feel compelled to correct factual errors - and am happy to debate issues!

You've made that very clear that you're happy to debate - just about anything.

And he has stated that it was merely his opinion… Fair enough you don't agree but there is no need to be a condescending douchebag about it.

I wasn't disgreeing with his opinion - I was correcting his spelling after he WRONGLY corrected mine!

I would not have replied if he hadn't made a point of re-spelling the word I had correctly used previously!

It was tig_prmz who was trying to correct my spelling - but he got it wrong and has every right to have that pointed out to him!

Opinion has no place in spelling - it is either right or wrong!

It is not as if I called him stupid or a moron - I just re-corrected his correction!

Why do you feel the need to protect him by attacking me - beacuse you have nothing worthwhile to offer???

Sorry to bring it up again but the whole point of the inverted commas was to highlight the bit "influential". Had nothing to do with correcting anyone's spelling. As for Gallen, he was very influential for Blues and did win a MOM for Australia. and thats just my opinion.

Sorry again mate if you thought I was correcting you. None of my posts have correct grammer or spelleng in it!

PS: grammar and spelling are spelt incorrectly for a joke

Cheers buddy - I also believe Gallen had a top season (as I mentioned he won the Big League mag player of the year). But his Cronulla - NSW and Australian teams have not had successful seasons - so he cannot be viewed as a true match-winner alongside the likes of Benji!

Well I would agree that Benji is very much a match winner both at NRL and International level… With Moltz all season and Lui out for a chunk of it I would imagine had Benji not been there we could have finished well down the ladder and NZ would have been no match for the Kangaroos without his prowess. All footballers make mistakes, its just a question of whether they make those mistakes when the game is on the line which Benji has been known to do from time to time.

Slater won the Boot in 2008 - the same year he gifted the Kiwis the World Cup!

I'm sure we'd agree though - that just like Benji - he won his team(s) more games than he lost for them - so I hope that view of Marshall's perceived inconsistency does not cost him the award as he really is a stand-out in the 2010 field.

I also must emphasise that as a half - Benji throws more at the opposition and takes greater risks - that inevitably lead to a higher error rate - than Slater does at FB!

While Gallen & Thaiday had top years - Ellis won the RLIF 2nd-Rower of thee year for the third successive season - and I would take him ahead of either of the Boot nominees!

benji has to be the favourite. led his team to 1 point from the grandfinal (even though he kicked out on the full, everyone makes mistakes), captained the kiwis to the four nations, and came 4th in the dally ms (highest of the nominees)

One could argue that Slater's mistakes have probably been more devastating in helping the cuzzy bro's secure both the World Cup and 4-Nations trophies.

You'd bloody think so - but because of Benji's flair - his mistakes are always blown out of proportion while Slater remains a protected species in the media (who do vote for the award)!

Surely Melbourne being excluded from the competition this year would have an impact on it. Club football would have to have a huge bearing on it otherwise Shaun Kenny-Dowall wouldn't have got a look-in.

SKD is a nominee - but surely he could not be considered to be as influential in his teams as the likes of Carney for the Roosters and Benj for NZ!

He did maintain his form into the 4 nations - and did make some big game-winning plays for the Roosters - but he is not absolutely instrumental to his team's success!

You're right there, but Carney didn't play origin and only had one(?) game for the Roos. I think to consider an Aussie candidate they'd almost certainly have to play origin as well as international?

Carney wasn't nominated (undoubtedly for that reason) - I just raised him as a gauge to SKD's individual value in comparison to his team's playmakers!

He also did not make the ANZAC Test team - that could work against him.

If he were to win - he would be up there with some of the greatest centres to ever play the game.in Meninga (1990) & Inglis (2009) - the only two centres to win the award! He had a great year - but I doubt he will even be remembered alongside their names in 20 years time!

FYI - out of the 18 previous recipients 5/8ths have won 4 (Lewis, Kenny, Lockyer, Fittler) - halfbacks 4 (Johns twice, Sterling & Jones)- fullbacks 4 (Jack, Lockyer, Minichiello & Slater) - back-rowers 2 (Hugh McGahan & Andy Farrell) - centres 2 (as above) - and Smith was the only hooker to get the title while Ellery Hanley won in 1989 whe he played lock, 5/8th and centre!

the evolution of benji marshall. he doesn't use the steps as much as he did when he started off in firstgrade: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_LAzxKTtS0&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
but he is better now in other ways

Apparently LU have been given 1 vote in the award and have set up a poll to decide who should receive their vote. You don't have to be a member to vote and it's on the front page of the site. Benji was winning easily this morning (60%ish) but it seems quite a few Sharks fans have jumped on to register their vote and given Gallen the lead.

Benji and Gallen are about even now, so everyone needs to get on and vote… That one LU vote might make a difference!!! Go Benji
