What do you mean? Because I said I believed he would stay? That's just my personal opinion, has nothing to do with contract negs. He won't get the money tigers are offering from any other Nrl club or super 15 teams and this is about money, promised money from this club regardless of who was at the helm at the time. He accepted a lot less in the proviso that when the cap increased the difference would be made up in the extension. Bad faith on behalf of wests tigers IMO.

I don't get it Gun…....he was promised an increase and this was offered one. A very healthy one if the figures bandied around are correct. He was still under contract for two years so has he not renegged on his word to sign and play until 2015??

If he really wanted an upgrade until 2017, then wouldn't one see out their contract for the next two years and play the best they can and then secure the big money in the final two years?

His managers efforts to make the club look bad are poor form in my opinion. I keep hearing that he stayed for less....so he should have after the seasons he had to sit out and was paid in full.

Sorry to see him go (for the next two years), but I think the club is being portrayed unfairly.

Tiger smurf, the $750k offered is very generous and IMO too much for benji but the problem lies in that he took considerably less back then because we were under cap pressure badly, the 1 million he wants isn't what he thinks he is worth but more to make up the difference of him taking less back then in the hand shake deal that 2016/17 would be where the difference was made up. He has every right to be cranky IMO

When we negotiated the deal, is it fair to say we agreed to the amount under the assumption he would be playing to a better standard?

Benji can't expect to be angry about the club not holding up their end considering he he struggled with his.

I realise this is an oversimplification, but it illustrates the reason why many of us fans baulked at an upgrade and extension.

He has the right to be counted as a club legend, but you could easily count the number of truly good/great seasons he had on 1 hand. You cant ignore that when talking about what WE owe HIM.

No doubt lat, on last 18 months for he probably is worth 250k but that's not the point really mate. I get where u r coming from though

well said mate.
fair game from WT on every count imo.

Thanks Gun, I do see where you are coming from but I also think he has not done himself any favours over the last two seasons. Had he been setting the world on fire we would not be having this debate.

I'm just sharing information to the common folk. Pretty sure there is a function on here that let's you not see my posts isn't there??

Well they said on fox sports news he was offered 3 year deal 2.1 million we gave him a good offer he chose not to accept its time to move on and look for the future.

People trashing Benji , is about as low as it gets , he doesn't deserve it .

For as long as I can remember , Benji has said :
- he wants to be a one club man
- he has always encouraged unity and brother hood at the club
- he has now openly said that he will never play against the Wests Tigers , in the professional era , I can't think of many people who would say and do that
- in leaving , he has acknowledged that he respects the clubs actions and decisions

All very honorable , I have always been a fan of Benji the rugby player , but i can now say i will always be a fan of Benji the man

It's clear that Humphries stuffed up and offered Benji too much , the offer was taken off the table and he was offered another deal which was worth less but more reflective of his actual worth , Benji has the right to be pissed off about that .

As it stands , I'd say if Benji took the 2 years , those would be his last at the club . At best at the end of the 2 he would be 30 , off contract and staring at shrinking 1 year deals .

If I took a pay cut in order to help the company out with a promise for the money to be paid to me in later years and to then have the the promise broken, I would walk too.

What if you went from good employee to bad? Would you expect to receive a payrise because a few years ago you got a half hearted verbal agreement?

Would you still walk even though you received a significant pay bump?
