Benji Marshall involved in late-night incident

The guy that benji hit obviously got exactly what he wanted out of all this. far from being embarressed about being decked by benji, he managed to bait a player he obviously hates - i doubt skin colour has much to do with it in the end, apart from being a tool this bastard used as a weapon to bait benji into reacting, and now gets to damage his image in the media. now that a charge has been laid, the NRL will likely suspend benji for atleast a week.

Mission accomplished, this fool and his mates will be laughing it up deluxe right now. "Got him!". they will be saying.

it would have been great if benji had managed to walk away without eventually reacting, but i cant blame him for hitting this bloke. its just unfortunate that its what this clown wanted all along and benji played right into his hands.

well now he has offically been charged this is NOT good at all

get ready everyone Moltzen is gonna be out 5/8 to start the season

There is no way he'll get suspended…back him for M.O.M vs Dogs, he'll kill em.

I don't think so Golden, the NRL judges every incident on it's merit.

The whole story doesn't paint a picture resulting in suspension.

But you never know.

yeah it is sad 😢 :. Its a shame we don't get to hear about it when he does turn the other cheek!!

the problem is we have a clown that runs the NRL, I dont think our club will stand him down at all its Gallop Im worried about I would have done the same thing if I was Benji too, and Im a white person

If this goes to court I hope the tormentors (all 8-10 of them) get their face plastered in the media with all their family/friends and workmates knowing that they racially taunted Benji and baited him into a response.

I hope they all feel like big tough guys about this.

Nothing worse then cowards who use their number to pick on other, especially when they target footy players knowing full well the players have allot to lose and won't retaliate 98% of the time.

Pathetic.

Unless new info comes to light against our boy, I fully support Benji 100% in this.

At best it will be aggravated assault charge maybe a small fine Hope the name and picture of these mongrels get posted somewhere Dingoes that what they are Too scared to hunt by themselves so hunt in packs If the club is reading this he should be allowed to play !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you say? Benji should know he can't put himself into a situation like this. You have to walk away and just ignore it. Its not fair but life isn't always fair. Unfortunately sometimes the wrong people are protected and prosecuted. Fingers crossed this is not one of those instances.

A sad aspect that may go missed is his efforts to raise money for children's cancer charities. I only hope that his future efforts to raise money for charities isn't affected.

I'll be surprised if Benji and his legal team don't fight this one in court. A shame it's happened, but given the extent of the injury suffered by the antagonist and his provocation towards Benji, I'd say there's a fair cause for contesting this one.

I'm more worried about how the NRL handle it. Wests Tigers have to provide a full report to the NRL tomorrow so they can determine whether Benji has breached any of their codes of conduct.

The charges will be dropped eventually. this clown wont have the guts to go through with pressing charges when he knows it will come out for all to know he deliberately baited benji into hitting him.

The problem however may be that by that time, the nrl may have already rubbed marshall out for a few weeks and benjis reputation has copped a battering by the media who dont give a stuff about facts, just headlines.

I think everyone needs to calm down as well however I'll probably inflame it more with this post.

Benji is a great player and really comes across to me as a fantastic role model and person. I have always viewed him in a positive light and this incident has not changed my opinion one bit.

In saying that he has now been charged with assault. He really stuffed up big time with regards to this. There are laws out there that simply have to be followed. You cannot hit someone unless it is in a sporting environment. Yes it happens but you are not allowed to do it. Benji is a public figure and he simply has to avoid these situations. All the posters making out that he did the right thing are living in fantasy land.

There seems to be a hell of a lot of assumptions being made on here, all based on media reports. Nobody knows the truth yet about the actions of Benji or the motivations of the guys who supposedly "baited him". But, I don't care. Benji should NOT, in any circumstance, have assaulted (yet to be proved) anyone. He should have walked away and let the law deal with it if he felt compelled to make a complaint of racial vilification. But, (it seems) he didn't. And, if true, his actions are indefensible. I feel a great discomfort with the sentiments of some folk on here who seem to suggest he should be treated differntly because he is one of ours or that what he did was justified by the actions of the morons who chose to verbally abuse him (allegedly). I am angry, disgusted and disappointed by Benji's actions. Of all the pople who have done such wonderful things to promote the decency of rugby league players, Benji had been a stand out. I thought he was someone who "got it". I thought he understood that his behaviour and actions just have to be perfect 100% of the time. But, I was wrong and he didn't "get it". He needs to face the consequences of his stupidity. And, if that invloves the NRL imposing supsensions or the WT standing him down, so be it. He chose that path.

Maybe he had no choice in ''the path he walked''
Apparently he tried to walk away
As you say…..lots of assumptions here
