Just got some inside information, from an extremely reliable source, that Benji Marshall has approached the Wests Tigers, to play out the rest of the year on a contract worth approximately $40,000, despite the Wests Tigers stating they do not want him. This should be interesting.

Would the NRL even register a contract that small? Didn't Parra try something similar with Folau and got knocked back?

If Benji comes back for 40k that is the ultimate sign of loyalty! If that happens I am going to put 1k on us winning the comp.

Anyone that still says he has a huge ego, is all about himself etc is miss reading the facts.

The only fact I have is a mate of mine (a down to earth country boy and not a Tiges fan) has worked with him for a number of years and says he is the most down to earth, generous guy going around. Lots of people judge him on crap from the media.

This source made my day. He could play next game for us at fullback and then we work it out later.

We all thought Blair was rubbish last year. He has come good with a better pack around him. Benji would be exactly the same

Benji was good on his day and have lots of memorable moments
My latest stress with wests tigers was with the
Re- signing of tedesco , now it's the fear of benji
Returning to the club !
I don't want him anywhere near the joint.. period .
He's a washed up has been !
All you benji lovers need to move on , he's history as far as I'm concerned !

Wouldn't be totally crap to have a cheap ex champion player coming off the bench 10 min before halftime against tired forwards. Much better than having him score a freakish match winner against us in the semi finals.

It sounds good in theory ED , but how long would that last for ?
Before you know it he'd be back demanding the
World !
As you stated he's an ex and I think the club should leave it at that .

Interesting article:
http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/wests-tigers-still-paying-clubless-star-benji-marshall-20140426-zqzuh.html

Explains the source of the $40k talk and also implies he didn't jump but was pushed.

I read we are STILL paying Benji this year and next…..$40K

As we had a restraint of trade clause in his agreement we would need to be providing compensation for this clause.

It's the same in your employment contract. If you leave a company to go to a competitor and your company enacts the restraint of trade they often need to compensate you for your loss of earnings. 'Garden leave' is often the term for this.

In light of the SMH article regarding the 2x20k for restraint of trade /non compete clauses is your friend standing by the Benji approach? I sincerely hope it's still true.

Do you guys think Benji saying he's a re-invented fullback is an attempt at him pretty much subliminally trying to beg the tigers to come back here?

Like… "I'll be good, I promise. I can see you guys are going well and I don't want to change that but I know your fullback is injured..... here I am. A re-invented fullback."

I for one, don't want him here. Blake Austin is a better option at #6 and once Tedesco is recovered - we don't need a fullback.

He's failed in two codes now, yeah OK.. he won a premiership once, like 10 years ago but what has he done for any one lately !?

He loses more games than he wins. Let him be a Sharks problem or a storm problem. I read a lot of suckers saying "oh, he's a WESTS TIGERS legend." We should boo him @ EVERY GAME he plays against us.

Thats right even IF this was true…there is no way the NRL would accept Benji for playing for $40k only....they would insist he be registered at fair market value in this years salary cap.......Its like selling property for $1 to your uncle the OSR would insist stamp duty be paid at fair market rate.

BTW Benji wasn't at the game today by any chance? It looked like the Tigers of old judging from the live thread posts.

And we will aim to recover the money from the transfer agreement when he signs with someone else.
