Benji return

Ok I hate the thought of Benji coming back to the game and playing for another team I also hate the way he walked out on us and the disrespect he showed when he did that stupid press conference in the blues jersey while still under contract with us … I was glad to see the back of him

But in saying that I think we need him in the halves with Brooks imagine the fire power we would have with Brooks, Benji, Farah, Teddy, Simona, Nofo, Pat and our forward pack playing straight up the middle we would have to be unstoppable.

Not only that but imagine the media exposure we would get endorsements possible new sponsors and more members. Lets face it Anasta is ok by saying that I mean safe. Austin is better then Anasta as he shows more flair and he is way more exciting to watch but is he the solution for the next 2 - 3 years while we wait for Moses. I see Austin as more as a utility player to fill in for Farah or to have on the bench as an impact player.

I think the club and potter should have a sit down with Benji and see where he is at in terms to his dedication to the game and the club. Most of all to see if potter and him can work together.

Cattivo quote "I think the club and potter should have a sit down with Benji and see where he is at in terms to his dedication to the game and the club. Most of all to see if potter and him can work together."

My thoughts are, that already happened last year. Marshall had the opportunity to sit and talk with Potter, to play under his new structures, to work towards building a new team with him, to stop being lazy and contribute. I'm guessing, they had the chance to take a good look at each other.

The result was Marshall demonstrated his dedication to the club by walking out when it was a losing side. He then expressed his dedication to the club in words to the effect 'Tigers is my only club & I'll never play for another'.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the players leadership group got together and got honest. Had a good hard look at themselves and each other, said cut the BS, drop the excuses, we want to win, lets work hard together. They bonded through hard work. Where was Benji? He could have been a part of that.

There's an old saying (I'm old so I know) actions speak louder than words.

Mayer has made the club's position clear. I'm reasonably certain that the decision to say 'thanks but no thanks' would not have been made lightly or in isolation. Potter would have been consulted. You would also think that, as importantly, the players leadership group were consulted.

As a footnote: Time will tell how dedicated Benji Marshall is to the Tigers. His actions to date tell me he's not dedicated at all to the Tigers. The only thing he has left are his words, 'never play for another club'. Big integrity test coming up!!

AND FURTHERMORE, sorry folks I'm jumping back on my soapbox with another footnote. One of the biggest issues I have with all the Benji Beji Benji BS is, once again the Marshall circus is overshadowing what this team has achieved. **The blokes that didn't walk, who stayed and worked hard and are now killing it.**

Why in the world would these blokes who are busting a gut for each other want to go back being known as the Benji support act? Why can't we just celebrate an absolutely awesome team that deserve our respect and admiration?

Thanks Benji, bye bye!

I understand where everyone is coming from I couldn't give a crap about the guy I was more thinking about the club and the marketing side of it if he did come back.

But I guess he has shown his true colours and if we did take him back as a club how would we look? I think he took the union contract to get out of the tigers contract knowing full well that it would make it easy to come back to the NRL and not have to pay so much for a release to go to another club. But who know what he and his manager are doing and thinking and to be honest who cares.

Lets all look to the future as we have so much talent and it can only get better from here what a great job the young guys are doing and how good is potter to turn things around in such a short time,

Hey come on Guys - where would we get the money from? If we needed Benji.

We are talking about losing a couple of young forwards because we may not have the money.
Does this sound like we would have enough for a Benji return. End of argument.

Next point - we don't want him - End of argument.

Third point - He does not want to return to the Tigers - End of argument.

Now - we are playing as a team - he is not a team player.
The team is now a solid happy unit and playing for each other.
A good reason why we are winning.

When he was with us he divided the club, had his own group of mates -
very clicky. and most of the team was very unhappy.
A good reason why we were losing.

A good reason to get rid of the problem and the problems mates.

This whole thing could have been a scam to get out of 2 years on his contract.
Would not put it past him. Gets released to Union - no compensation.
Plays a couple of games and decides to come back to the NRL - no compensation?

Don't think so!!!!! Whoever signs him - make them pay ( we had to pay for Sheens, Gibbs etc.) so we have a little more to keep these young guys.

Benji can go to the Tiger Sharks and play with his clicky mates who were let go. Good luck with that!

Wonder what Gallen and Fifita think of the Sharks possibly signing Benji

The problem with signing Benji is he won't change , despite what he says

Like he said himself " it was like I was 1 rugby league player and I was playing with14 rugby union players "

He wouldn't change under Sheens and Sheens got the bullet

He wouldn't change under Potter and he got the boot after one season

He wouldn't change under Sir John Kirwan and got the boot after 5 months

He might be worth 80-100 k to a desperate club in 2014

But when he wants 400-500k in 2015 (at a minimum ) no matter what happens in 2014 , he will be on the outer again

He claimed his stint with the Auckland Blues had given him his “hunger, desire and fire” back.

Hah!
Hilarious

All his stint did was cross off one less option

Call me cynical but i think this whole damn thing is because his ego couldnt handle how well the Wests Tigers were playing without him.

He has a point to prove now.

Just got some inside information, from an extremely reliable source, that Benji Marshall has approached the Wests Tigers, to play out the rest of the year on a contract worth approximately $40,000, despite the Wests Tigers stating they do not want him. This should be interesting.

I don't think this is fair dinkum but even if it is- I would take him for 40K and let him start in NSW Cup and see if his hunger and desire (and his skill level) is where he says it is- nothing to loose for 40K

If true, it would show some integrity from Marshall and no doubt involve a steady diet of humble pie. I think Potter and the players might take some convincing.

No thanks

I agree, wests-tigers and benji have had their time together.
wests-tigers have moved on and are progressing well.
benji is not.

But then we would have to say good bye twice :unamused:

On a side not what makes this slightly plausible is the fact we are supposed to be seeking compensation which may make things difficult for him to find a club this year.

Even if he knuckles down and accepts disciplined playing approaches re Melbourne etc, fact is he is still a defensive liability, pretty much has been that way since he stuffed his shoulder.
I think we would be better off playing against him , rather than with him, we know what he is like and can take advantage of his weak points.

Would the NRL even register a contract that small? Didn't Parra try something similar with Folau and got knocked back?

I have heard one or two rumours that suggests he wants to come back here, but given Todd Carney tore his hammy today, I reckon that will almost ensure he'll be picked up by the Sharks.
