Benji: Too timid, too reactive: I've become a shadow of myse

Surely the club is thinking twice about his contract.

The problem is he will come out and have a huge game or two and be hailed a hero, but the overall problem is his consistency. I'm sure he will find form again but for how long. ? And is it worth 700k a year. ?

However we need a good half to help this situation so lets give brooks a go.

It's really sad. I sort of feel for him that he's a victim of his own success. (In the way that fame and attention has made him arrogant)

It's really all about attitude, he's lost the hunger…I really wonder what he would feel if the tigers told him to look elsewhere...that's like Beau leaving reaction (tears) x1000

Man, the responses in this thread are **harsh**. People like to talk about how arrogant Benji is, he was just admitting that he's sucking right now and doesn't measure up to how he's played in the past. And he's doing what I wanted him to do, studying the video! He and Potter think that if he keeps this up he should be in reserve grade, how many unrealistic full of themselves players would come out and say that rather than blame outside factors (even if that blame is only in their own minds, since they have the option to not even say ANYTHING)?

The board should put it on him…

"Hi Benji, obviously we are here to re-evaluate your contract as per the agreement in your current contract seeing as the salary cap has been raised."

"After long deliberation and evaluation of your current worth to the team, and taking into account the expansion of the salary cap, we have come to what we believe is a new fair offer, a direct reflection of what you currently bring to the club."

Scrawls number on a piece of paper and slides it across the table...

"Since you are playing not even half as good as you were last contract, and half of your current contract is $200,000, add to that the cap has expanded by 20% odd, we feel that $300,000 is honestly fair. It breaks down to $240,000 half as good with cap growth ratio worked in, and a $60,000 top up per year for being a great bloke and as a pat on the back from the club for being a one club man."

"Not happy with that, then look to your manager, tell him to pull his head out of his anoos, and come back to us when you have proven you are an asset to the club."

^ that's his 'draw four' card. He's played that hand through the media every time his form drops, and the cycle repeats itself.

You think this is the first time he's watched a highlight vid of himself? I think whatever he puts out in the media are just deflections of issues he doesn't want to go into.

I used to be a big fan, but you just know Benji will always be Benji, more rocks than diamonds.

me me me me me look at mee look at me look at mee

WHY ARENT YOU LOOKING AT MEE !!

i want the headlines to be tigers win because of benji
i looked at the highlights of myself
me me me

he wants to go back and look at what worked for him before? why not look forward and look at players like thurston, slater, inglis etc. and see what they're doing that you're not

Does he think we are all fools ,seriously

X 2
How long was Benji going pull of miraculous come from behind victories… Now we see the entire team for where they're at... None of its pretty...
The recent article about Fotuaki speaks a bit to Benji"s character in terms of cultural roots and being overwhelmed by responsibilities at times... To the point of frazzled inaction...
Maybe it's not so wise to display your vulnerability in the tabloids - I wouldn't - but at least he reflects and recognises where he needs to change... As someone who"s been entirely loyal to the club, above everything, not sure he deserves suggestions he's a rorter...

God this is embarrassing.

Here's a tip: get out of the media, stop playing us all for fools and telling us how you're going to do this and that and DO IT.

Once again all talk, no action.

Nothing this guy says or does surprises me anymore. Just look at his track record:

- Has stated he just wants to play with his mates
- Went on for yrs about how he never wanted to play under anyone else but Sheens cos apparently he was the best coach in the game, despite never being coached by anyone else to even test that theory
- When Sheens was negotiating with Penrith in 2011, the public spectacle he made of himself was laughable. Almost was reduced to tears on The Footy Show when discussing the possibility of Sheens not staying on
- Walked into his kitchen and cried when he found out his two best friends were leaving and were moving 20km's down the road. I actually found this admission disgusting considering in the same week players from the Port Adelaide football club were left reeling and grieving over the death of a team mate on an end of season trip. So while those poor guys are grieving over the death of a teammate and preparing to attend a funeral, Benj's crying in his kitchen about 2 of his teammates signing to play elsewhere. Pretty petulant in the scheme of things right?
- And now we have the puff pieces seemingly once a week now, every article more stomach turning than the next

Its no surprise when you look at his history off the field that he's so enigmatic on it. How can he grow and mature as a footballer when he can't even do it as a man

To be honest, I like this article, but first Ill start with why its disturbing. Footballers shouldn't speak in the way he is speaking, football is a bout mental toughness and strength, not the gala dinner you will say a speech out after getting an applause for a high the highlight reel just being shown behind you. Benji needs to find a way to get the players around him to feel his movements and direction, he can still throw the pass or create holes he can run into but he needs motion around him. But you have him going on about HIS confidence and HIS game, this me me me cherade is damaging and his teammates must get sick of it. Instead of writing an article to draw even more atention or give reasons or draw guilt or whatever for his low form to just save face, he should be pulling the team around him together and working on creating options for THEM to be the star for once and he will find himself smiling more than ever.

What makes me enjoy this article is that I believe he can make a return to form. I believe he can start making his plays more cohesive, effective and valuable, he seems to be on the right track when he talks about his structure and how he has preempted situations. When someone is as instinctive as benji its hard to keep up that same level, unlike players like cronk who it isnt as natural. This is because they dont know exactly why they do that play or make that decision it just comes to them. He needs some gametime in reserve grade where hes got new combinations and he will asses the situation diffrently, creating variety and getting that intuition for timing and position back up to a higher speed and quicker responsiveness. Benji is an athelete who has alot of knowledge, skill and experience I have no doubt he still has more in him, lets hope he can find his youthful spring.

THAT WOULD USUALLY BE THE END OF MY INPUT INTO AN ARTICLE LIKE THIS BUT HOWEVER ITS NOT, I HAVE ONE MORE THING TO ADRESS HERE.

The reaction on this place to marshalls form is more disturbing then anything, Benji is like a son to me, watching him grow up a tiger has without a doubt been one of the most enriching and exciting things in my life to date, its amazing how much joy he really has given me. Lately it has been sapped and I hold most of you accountable, it really is sickening to know these are the fans I unite with in a win. By all means hold him acountable for his form he is a man and a footballer, but we are his family and with such a destructive family, why would he fight for them? Please some of you have a holiday from this forum, it wont miss you.

Oh and by making a new thread about marshall instead of just commenting about it in an existing thread is frankly just as attention grabbing and annoying. If what you say is quality everyone will still read it because it will get quoted. Fools.

JD this is the best thing written on here this year.
I too am disgusted at the pathetic attacks and disgraceful, mob mentality that has appeared on here recently. Some of you are carrying on in such a petulant, nasty way that it in itself is far more embarrassing than Benji's recent form. He is one of our own, has single handedly won us more games than any other player and does not deserve to be called the crap that he is on here. Some of you really need to grow the hell up.

I am disgusted by Benji's pathetic attack, his disgraceful showing as a paid professional, and his arrogant mentality in having the hide to enact a contractual clause that is designed to keep his pay rate in line with salary caps raises to actually ask for a pay rise on top… especially while being in career worst form and asking money in line with the highest paid players in the game. I would also go as far to say that he has also failed in his duties to an extent where he has personally cost us more games than any other player ever has. Some of you really need to grow the hell up and realise that he is a professional, his job is to perform the role he is employed to carry out otherwise needs to be replaced, not given a pay rise.

Is your arse getting sore on that bandwagon?
How many bloody threads need to be created to say the same thing? Your all revving each other up trying to outdo each other to see who can say the most vicious thing. I did find it funny at first but it is just sad now. I think the point has been made.

Is your life so empty, that experiences to you hold no meaning or emotion? You must be severely depressed, because obviously you have no memory of the past. Your probably not even a wests tigers supporter, you couldn't be. Im angry about the way wests tigers are playing and I vent all the time to my mates and family, how about you go find your self a little friend and have a real conversation about footy maybe that might help your mental illness.

if Im on the bandwagon, being at the other end of the scale I suppose it makes you the draught horse out front with the blinkers on…

Which is ok, because we all have the right to our own opinions...

This is professional sport we are talking about, the extreme end of the performance based workforce, their employment and worth based almost entirely on results, all played out in front of millions of people...

He is writing this crap that all but invites a higher level of criticism, and seems hell bent on painting a target on himself... these threads arent materialising out of nowhere.

Ok, I will bite…

To me, the definition of an empty life would be filling the void by vicariously adopting a sportsperson, and them providing the most enriching and exciting moments in your life. Im also not too sure how my supposed short memory could make me depressed. To my way of thinking if my memory was that bad, even if i was depressed, I would soon forget why and return to a more normal happy state of being... Finally, I am quite sure Im not all there, but if the person on the interweb with a pretend son thinks I am mentally ill, I will take their word for it as he can probably smell his own kind.

Have a good night.
