Benji

On 360 last night they showed Mary MacGregor's post match interview and he was asked a question in regards to making changes and he mentioned "personnel changes "

Kent then brought up that Saints were 0/3 when Benji played and 2/2 when McCrone played

Then Benji wasn't on NRL 360 the night before , no reason given

No mention that Benji was injured by anyone

Is Benji on the outer at St George ??

I'm not Benji's biggest fan , but I hate to see him go out playing NSW Cup

Thoughts ??

Sheens spent too long pumping his tyres, and not enough time teaching him football. Its kind of sad, having the finesse he can have at times, yet over-reaching as often as he does because he doesnt understand any better.

He wasn't on 360 cause they were in Brisbane…

Hammy's are tricky as you get older...

They now haven't scored a point in 160+ odd minutes...

And Finally..your tin-foil is to tight again...loosen up man...

McCrone is awful as he just demonstrated for a full 80 minutes against the Broncos. There is no area of his game that doesn't stink. McGregor will be playing with fire if he keeps running out McCrone if Benji is fit…

It's Benji's ego that is to blame for him over-reaching on every play. He still thinks he is the mercurial matchwinner he was 10 years ago instead of the fading, slowing shell of the player he once was.
At some point Sheens has to be absolved of blame for every single one of his ex-players who crashes and burns.

I thought he was the worst player in the comp at one stage, when he first appeared at Canberra…though he did improve a lot in his last year or two there.
He's just gone backwards however at saints

Last night,I thought Saints played like we did against Parra. Most of their game wasn't too bad.
However they just kept dropping the ball and couldn't score, which I guess is a big part of the game..so they lost. If Benji had played they wouldn't have been worse.

Benji is going down the same road as Anasta, once they loose that speed edge they can look very average, its been a while, probaly 6+ years, since he put a string of good games together.
On song he's a match winner but ego has clouded his judgement and the need to adapt, still after the flashy low percentage play.
What riled me was his attude with Potter, stuff up kick after kick, miss tackles, turn the momentum in favour of the opposition then stand back and let the coach get the blame,Potter should have left him on the bench if he wasn't allowed to drop him.
In an interview with Fox last week he seemed to imply that the Saints $300,000 was insulting,he said he's only 31 and has a lot to offer, well i don't thing it will be in the halves so not sure where he's going to go,at least Anasta could tackle.
After saying all that i'm sure he will have some good games this season, particulary when he's playing for a contract but IMO he's trying to climb a slippery slide and the end result is retirement.

Benji has to get to the ESL as soon as possible his NRL days are over probable get 3 seasons over there and be very successful ,but have heard the misses doesn't like the cold ,probable will end up on Fox .

If he wants to stay in the NRL he needs to be in a very very good side and most good sides already have great sixes and sevens. So Benji needs to pack his bags and head for the UK. I just hope we do not see him as a possible replacement for Brooks or Moses if they decide to look elsewhere.

Always hate seeing champions go a year to long because usually they are judged on their last season rather than their career

it's a sad end for such an unbelievably talented player. no one to blame but himself i guess.

the game's moved on a lot since he last came good and no club would ever match even half of what esl clubs would be willing to offer. he'll kill it there though.

On his day, he was brilliant, sadly those days are becoming more like Feb 29th.
Happen once every four years.

Could it simply be that his body, which has taken a battering over the years, is letting him know, that is time to call it a day ?

I do hope he doesn't end up playing park footy, coping cheap shots from other players.

x 2

Media career for him.
He's been on the declince since 2012/2013.

Time to hang up the boots.

No coincidence that Widdops form took a dip after Dragons signed Benji.

If i were Dragons i would be investing that 300k p.a into Kodi Nikorima from the Broncos, would be a much better compliment to Widdops game.

A halves pairing of Widdop and Nikorima with Rein at hooker and Dugan at the back is much more competitive.

Never has there been a player with his talent regress the way he has. He could have been one of the all time greats. I reckon he has his attitude to thank for that. All he cared about in the last few yrs here was playing with his mates. Even admitted to being in tears when Ryan and Heigno told him they were leaving. He's never conducted himself as a professional, and that is why he's finished his career languishing in mediocrity instead of being in the same class as Thurston. Damn shame.

Benji's decline would be part attitude , but I think the games moved on quiet a bit since he was at his best .
Players these days are faster /stronger and quicker than ever .
IMO, he was never really a League player , Touch footy was his forte .
Time to give it up Benji !

There's a great photo behind the bar at the orange grove up the hill from Leichhardt oval of Benji running away from J. Thurston.

His career may not be over yet but that's how I'll remember him.
