Benji was assessed as having had a good season in 2015\. He engineered many tries for his team mates, and even scored a couple himself. McGregor favored the 'left half/ right half' structure in an era when most teams just have one organizing half. St George made the playoffs. **Not a bad year.**
I still don't get the attitude that Benji gets from a number of you on here. Like you resent having to admit that he was once the greatest player in the league, winner of the Golden Boot etc. He will always be one of my all-time favourite players, and I hope he does well whoever he plays with now and in the future.
Thats right,2015 season wasn't a bad year but by his own standards a very average, even poor, year. This year he seems to be completely out of sync with the Saints backline, particulary Widdop, but they may get something going later in the season.
He got heavily criticized when he ran across the field and then got bundled into touch against the Cow's,he was waiting for an inside run so he could flick the ball instead his teamates just stood there and watched, they had no idea what the hell he was trying to do.
I think most of us on here that have been involved in Football know that Benji was a great player but you can't run a Club on what a player did 10 years ago, there are no favourites just form players, you can cut slack to the youngsters and give them time to adjust but any Club 'carrying' a mature player on what he did in the past is history.
Benji does not hit the line hard, never did,he relied on guile & speed, when you loose that speed edge you are easy pickings for the defence.
Martin Tauber,if the rumours are correct, tried to reason with him, tried to make him see reality as far as a new contract is concerned,so he dumped him, there is one giant ego
headed for a fall which is shame as he was once a Champion.
