I don't see any drama with it , if Bennett makes the poms more competitive it'll make for better tests IMO

We will only win by 30 points now Hobbo

Maybe he should coach Derby ??

He's simply a mercenary going where he know's where the $$$ and success are, I would really love to hear him come out and admit that he was wrong in rejecting the Qld SOO job in1995 that saw Fatty Vautin's no names win the title.

Oh right….so England will win the 4N eh?
Im sure you'll get fair odds

Like Twmba Tigerman said, I would've liked him to coach one of the emerging nations instead. But as for chasing the big $$ I don't blame him.
He has two terribly disabled children to look after and is making
sure they're set for life. Like any good parent would do.

Wayne has put alot of time and resources into PNG RL over the past 20 years and was one of the men pushing for them to be included in the Q Cup a few years back.

His tenure at NZ was more about infrastructure; Coaching the Coaches & teaching the young players what it should mean to play for their country.

I'd sence this will be the same for England. He will be the Manager, and have 2-3 apprentices.

At least England fund there own competition & national team unlike those NZRL freeloaders!

He has made a monster $$$ out of the game don't worry about that and would have invested it accordingly.

To me this smells Greed I'm sorry…...he lived away from his Family when Coaching Newcastle and Dragons, when is he going to dedicate the Family time his Kids deserve with there disabilities they have, his Wife must be very tolerant.

No doubt he's entitled to maximise his earnings not saying that at all......but I think his Family could do with him being at home during the NRL offseason instead of being in England.
I'm sure he would be on close to $1 million per year at the Broncos as it is.

Anyway where all different some just value the Family more than money.

I've had opportunities to earn a lot more.....but it entailed being away from the Family going interstate weeks on in at a time, but i'm not willing to sacrifice the time and missing big chunks of my kids lives for that extra money.
I'm more than content how things are and I'm not on anywhere near what Bennett's on.
" Each to there own as they say " good luck to him i don't wish him anything bad.

No need to be sorry. I respect your opinion FT. Definitely agree with you about family being more important then money.

Wayne doesnt earn as much income as you think at the Broncos… His agreement is heavily geared towards share options over salary.

International footy should be the pinnacle of a players rep career.
NZ have finally woken up and realised this. They provide reasonably stern opposition.
England are very poor and are more a team of Champions than a great side.
Rugby League needs an international competition that is not a forgone conclusion before a ball is kicked. To achieve this NZ and England must consistently stick it up the Aussies.I see no problem in an extremely experienced
Aussie coach helping them make this happen.

It would be great to see an Australian squad picked where players don't pull out for various reasons because wearing the green and gold is the goal they all desperately wish to achieve.

It can only be good for the game and if nothing else it generates publicity for the game both here and in the UK and if the game is to grow beyond the eastern seaboard of Australia, bits of NZ and New Papua N G, we need a strong international comp

I have soo much respect for Bennett despite him being a QLDer.

He is doing whatever he can to ensure that his family and the game he loves are set up to the utmost of his ability and effort.

I commend Bennett for helping the Kiwis and the English to grow the game we are all so passionate about.

People should dig up the "ABC Australian Story" they did on him a few years back. Remarkable man.

Wow sticking the boot into the bloke for chasing the dollars, particularly with disabled kids.

How many of you have taken job opportunities worth more money to provide?

Moreover it makes the international game stronger and less of a laughing stock. The Rugby League World Cup might actually mean something if the Poms and NZ routinely challenge the Aussies.

If he resurrects the Poms, I'd like to see him mentor the Kumuls, Samoa or Tonga.

We are doing our bit for the International teams that play against us already.

We appointed Meninga as coach of Australia - didn't we. LOL

Also the Fijians would be good to help develope, they produce some very good footballers and WB would be handy sorting through their leagues…

True TT, probably more of a priority to compete with Rugby.

And years of paper bags from "The Thoroughbreds"
I think Wayne does well enough for the future of his family.
And good luck to him.
The demeaning thing about this is his whinges about other people during the process and after it

It is a professional game, he can do what he wants.

There are loads of Aussies plying their trade for other countries (Bayliss, Eddie Jones amongst others)

I do object a little to the higher than thou reasons for going, to improve the international game and what not…..please.

Id rather they just say it was an excellent offer that was too good to refuse, fans will accept that.

I always remember Michael Caine after staring in a B grade movie being questioned by a critic on why he would sign up to such a movie and he replied "My wife wanted a pool", beautiful, we all have jobs and we are all generally motivated at least in part by the pay, so why not footballers (and actors)
