look absolutely amazingggg!

that vid is awesome

pubs, roof, close to the action, transport EXACTLY what sydney needs. Dogs, Souths and Tigers should all be pulling 20-25k avgs in any given season playing out of this place.

Ah cool, its within a 5 minute walk of a typical crime-infested trainline, we get to sit close to the action….we should average 25k every game. Sorry buddy but u have your head up ya clacker, if we play as poorly as we did to end this year we will be fortunate to get 10k to our home games...and we just got rid of our most wholehearyed

I must admit I watched the vid for it and it did look impressive.

But…..its complete lack of infrastucture is annoying.

Maybe of there were a few more pubs and restaurants around so u could make more of a day of it....and maybe the ferry over instead of the train would be nice.

And still we would be sharing it with two other sides.

Complete lack of infrastructure? It has it's own dedicated train station and buses run to the place?

You need to realise the game is professional now, and as such it needs to cater to a wider audience to continue it's growth. Only a fraction of people want to sit/stand on a soggy hill with a warm can of $7 beer. I love Leichhardt as much as the next bloke but it is well out of touch with what is required to cater for a wide audience.

Yes the game has become professional very true CB , I'm just wondering which decade or millennium the WT's will become professional

i never said 25k next year, i said 25k when this and the westconnex is finished, probably 5-10 years. Once the schedule is reworked for more day games in 2018 and this is set up i dont see why that is impossible

you wanna know the wests tiger's average at ANZ stadium for home games? 23816 per game across 28 games. last season, despite finishing in the bottom 4, we got 21.6k per game at ANZ.

yeah, 25k means i have my head up my cracker.

That video looks awesome, but I guess we'll see in a few years how it ends up.

IMO the biggest mistake in the building of ANZ stadium is that they didn't make the first level of seating nearly steep enough, so the fans are too far away from the action (and still will be even with a rectangular field, albeit a little bit closer)

Exclusive: NRL chief Dave Smith’s plan to crash tackle ANZ Stadium and build bigger Allianz arena

THE NRL is lobbying Premier Mike Baird to build a new 65,000-seat Allianz Stadium at Moore Park, making it Sydney’s pre-eminent sports arena instead of Sydney Olympic Park’s ANZ.

The word is that NRL chief Dave Smith is also urging the government to consider building a new 40,000-seat, fully-roofed stadium at Parramatta.

These moves would spell the death knell for the former Olympic stadium, which is hoping the government will fund about $250 million of its $350 million redevelopment plan released this week.

In a sign the NRL will be a serious player in Sydney’s stadium battle, a well-placed source has revealed that Smith is giving the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust $750,000 to fund half of a new “concept design evaluation” for Allianz.

Work on the study has apparently already begun, assessing two options: refurbishing the existing Allianz stadium with between 45,000 and 55,000 seats or demolishing it and building a new 65,000-seat facility.

Smith has told NRL club officials the government should take a 50-year view when deciding how to invest hundreds of millions of dollars modernising Sydney’s out-of-date stadiums.

“It’s really a once in a lifetime opportunity and he wants to make sure Sydney gets it right,’’ one source said.

Smith is believed to have advised the Premier the government should consider Sydney’s sporting infrastructure as a “network of stadiums” and avoid “putting lipstick on pigs”.

He has been telling sports powerbrokers that the most successful football stadiums are purpose-built, rectangular arenas; located near existing commercial hubs; and well-serviced by transport, preferably heavy rail.

If you were starting from scratch, Smith argues, the biggest stadium would be located as close as possible to the CBD, like Melbourne’s sporting precinct, with a mid-tier stadium in Sydney’s mid-west and a third venue built further west once the Western Sydney airport project is well underway.

While he believes ANZ CEO Daryl Kerry has delivered the best redevelopment plan possible, he believes ANZ lacks atmosphere, with spectators too far away from the sidelines.

Sport Minister Stuart Ayres has also been in close contact for Smith over the past six months.

One source said the NRL has compared ANZ to Suncorp Stadium and found the worst seat in Brisbane is 45 metres closer to the action than at Homebush.

The NRL declined to comment yesterday its views are important as Sydney’s NRL teams are the biggest stadium tenants.

The leaders of ANZ’s two main tenants, the South Sydney Rabbitohs’ Shane Richardson and Canterbury Bulldogs’ Raelene Castle spokes enthusiastically about ANZ’s redevelopment plan this week. Under the plan, sports fans would be able to sit within 5 metres of the action at each end of the ground. The stadium would also be surrounded by a dynamic entertainment zone filled with bars, cafes and restaurants.

The NRL is responsible for staging roughly 100 premiership games in Sydney a year. At the moment, about 20 games are being played at Allianz, 30 games at ANZ and the other 50 in smaller venues.

Smith may make the point that the NRL would be able to convince clubs to play many more games in two main stadiums if it was confident fans would embrace “the game-day experience”.

The game day experience is a thing of the past, with sunday games now set to kick off at 4pm…the ''sunny sunday arvo'' will be a mere memory soon.

TV rules, game attending fans a long way behind

Absolutely right Ink,if they are to succeed then they have to consider family friendly schedules where you can take the kids to watch the game and be home at a reasonable hour for them as well..
I know it's not all about just families, but to view the broader spectrum and to be successful all things have to be considered..
Are we becoming a sporting community where we stay at home and watch the game on TV played in a stadium almost empty,or does the NRL make it more enjoyable to go to the game and create a good atmosphere where you can't wait to attend another game….
Remember the old saying...you make more money with bums on seats.......

Allianz needs a facelift but doesn't need to be any bigger than it is currently! It's very, very rarely full outside of the Sydney Derby in the ALeague and maybe some of the NRL finals games.

Smith's statement just shows his general incompetence. He states how fans dislike the lack of atmosphere and then suggests adding 20000 seats to give the other major stadium in Sydney even less atmosphere than it currently has! ANZ loses atmosphere by having 60k empty seats. Having 50k empty seats at Allianz will only make it feel like a ghost town too!

Allianz needs a roof and if possible stronger inclination on the rows. ANZ also could benefit from a roof and steeper inclination.

Both plans are ludicrous though. ANZ's plans are incredibly greedy and overly ambitious while Allianz's are just plain stupid.

ANZ needs to become a permanent rectangular stadium if it's to improve at all and they need to convince businesses owners that 4-5 pubs in the area are necessary.

SFS is a rad stadium, but its transport links stink. Homebush has fairly good transport but the design is not the best for rugby league.

But I get it, ANZ was never going to start out as a purpose-built league stadium.

An underground train link to Moore Park might be a goer, but a complete waste of money given other areas it could be spent in.

Sounds like either Parra or Homebush is going to get a major upgrade or re-build. Whichever it is we have to make it our home ground.

I don't get what needs to be done to ANZ. If the choice came down to ANZ or SFS, ANZ every day of the week. Twice on Sundays.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Allianz at all. I love watching Rugby League and Football there.

I agree, Allianz is a great place to watch a game !
At ANZ your too far away from the action .
