Also think a certain halfback would at least be in the conversation, had he not been a despised coach ?

You just had to... Didn't you

Well, when you look at the halfbacks both produced over the last 30-40 years, there’d only be a couple in front of him.

Terrible coach, but a solid, durable halfback, and a great goal kicker.

I like Taylor as a footballer good organiser, turn of speed over 20 mtrs good passing game and great kicker but was he a better half than Raudonikis or Freeman don't think so.

If you look at the top 5/6 halfbacks at Wests /Balmain /Wests Tigers since 1970 they are all very different

And does Baa Lamb get a mention ....another terrific footballer despite his short time at the club

I feel it’s anyone whose worn the jersey. The grey area is whether we judging based on the player at their best, or how they were when they played with us. It’s a big difference.

Yep ...Nick Graham and Jason Cayless are thereabouts in our WT top 17 based on previous form

Cayless at the Roosters was a beast. Always liked Graham as well, and thought he”d be great for us.

McCracken is another one. Probably the most forgotten WT’s player in the clubs history. Most forgotten notable player that is.

Looking back, 2000 was a squandered year imo. Great team on paper.

Tommy not rating Brett Hodgson and letting him go to Parra was a killer ...and losing McCracken

I watched the 2005 finals and grand final...gee I thought young Ben Galea was a great player that year and Dene Halatau played a brilliant game against St George the week before the GF..we have had some very good players come through for limited success, but I think there was plenty of talent over the years..I cant come up with a team because there would be to many to choose from...from both Wests and Balmain...and from the WTs in later years after the merger..

I’d agree with that @happy_tiger. Love Tommy but that’s was a clanger of a decision.

I don’t get how Tommy made the decision when he wasn’t going to be WT’s coach. I thought it was a combination of Parra giving Hodgson a better offer and Pearce not wanting him. I don’t think Pearce rated many of the Wests players. Harvey Howard, who was a better prop than Lowrie and Shane Walker got the flick, and Mescia and Ken McGuiness, while they got contracts, were never in favour in 2000.

Even before the merge he was told he wasn't wanted ...why he went looking in the 1st place

That’s dumb. Should have been a Magpie/Tiger for life.

As should have Heigno and Gibbs.

The John Elford Story - Pratten Park Magpies

Has two photos which should qualify John for the team

1) Dumping Dennis Fitzgerald on his head

2) Being sent off against Queensland

For those that are too young Noel Kelly, prop and hooker (preferred - team of the century), was the original enforcer. Defended the little blokes, sent off 17 times. Example 2nd test 1967 Australia vs NZ, watch from the 2 minute mark.
