They are the two men who do the hard work in the engine room, laying the foundation for the very exciting Wests Tigers NYC team.
Kyle Lovett and Nathan Brown may have different body sculptures but both have formed a strong and successful front row partnership for Coach Todd Payten.
Lovett is a tall, solidly built forward while Brown is shaped like the old style traditional front-rower. Irrespective of their builds, the best of friends are getting the job done up front for the U20s competition leaders.
Payten says Lovett and Brown complement each other well on and off the field. It is a common joke amongst team-mates and officials that wherever you find Kyle, you will find Nathan.
“Kyle is your worker in that he does everything right where as Browny eats up the metres in his hit ups,’’ Payten said.
“Both have a bit of skill and are still finding their feet in passing the ball more.
“Kyle (above right) has been our most consistent player throughout the first eight rounds.
“His attitude and work ethic has been excellent. He is coming off a groin problem which saw him miss most of the pre-season. He has played back-row for most of his life but he has handled the transition to the front-row very easily. I’m very happy with the way he is progressing.
“When Kyle is out there, we are a much better side defensively in the ruck with his talk and his movement and leadership in the middle.”
Like Lovett, Brown spent plenty of time in rehab over summer due to a foot injury.
“Browny may have played one trial but he hardly got any running under his belt,’’ Payten said.
“He started the first four weeks well and dropped off a bit but he been consistent over the last few weeks and is a lot fitter. He is leading the way up front.”
