Best post match I’ve seen from Michael Maguire

Madge might be unhappy but here is my wishlist for him;

1. Sack your scouts, get scouts who can find young good talent.

2. Look after them from the age of 15 just like Sydney Roosters, Broncos and Melbourne do.

3. Sack whoever it was that suggested buying Jennings

4. **GET A GOAL KICKER.** I watch Rugby as well in Canberra and there are 20-year-old kids everywhere who can kick goals from the side line in 3rd grade and under 16's

5. Tell Brooks to start playing the game and running at the line from the opening minutes NOT the last 10 when we have to play catch up.

6 STOP running inside line balls 10 meters from the defensive line . It is so easy to defend against it. Do it by running at the line and then an inside ball.

7. At training PRACTICE a few moves to put on inside the 20 meters that does not involve a stupid kick on the ***THIRD*** tackle

8. Get somebody who can pass from dummy half. The speed and direction of passing from dummy half is the slowest in the comp.

9. At training PRACTICE fast line speed defense. A slow jog up of your line means that the opposition gets over the advantage line every play the ball. Which means their kick on the 5th tackle is an attacking kick ........not a defensive one like ours.

10 GET a fast winger.

11 Get a centre? Get a full back

12. Stop paying Masters whatever he is getting to just run from dummy half.

13. Actually, when you do a move ( see point 7) Think about how he much be invloved by running on to the ball at pace.

14. Go to UK and get a ball playing forward. Esinghuth / Taylor are not up to it and too slow. Perhaps even buy a fast UK winger who can kick goals. There's only about 30 of them!!!!

15. Sign Robbie off after his 300th. To slow,

16. With a small pack, have your forwards sometimes run two off the ruck and time your dummy half pass so they get the ball just behind the ruck (not 7 meters back ) so they at least get over the advantage line. Also kindly ask them to run a full pace ......not a quick 3/4 jog.

17, Tell Lawrence he is allowed to pass the ball.

18. Come up with a way to get out of our 10 meters OTHER than poor Corey Thompson ( at 85kg) hitting it up or fat , slow, unfit Jennings.

19 Heres a trick I was taught at under 10s 40 years ago. When you hit the ball up have somebody follow them in case they make a half a break. It also puts the defense in two minds.

20. Taylor is good but gives a minimal one penalty away a match. Dock him $2000 a penalty.

21 Instead of always waiting to the 4th tackle, try and be a bit inventive by using one of your moves ( see note 7) on the third or maybe the second.

22 Expand your moves beyond the "two players run through, pass out the back" It dosn't work.

Definitely we should pass this onto Madge.

I'm sure he hasn't thought of any of these solutions to his problems.

Could you also add point 23 for him so he knows where to get the money to buy these players.

@Russell

Well, he dosn't seem to have thought about them over the last 8 weeks. BTW Money. savings from Packer, Farah, Jennings, Reynolds, Esinghuth, Taylor, Mimorovski

He has thought about a lot of that - you need to keep up.

Apart from Farah - the others are still under contract next year and some the year after. You would have to find someone that wants them first and willing to pay more than 5 cents of the contracts.

How does it go "when you start listening to the fans thats when you should be sitting with them" - all the answers and no accountabilty the mantra of fans who follow a losing team.

Tough gig being the coach of an NRL side admiration can turn to loathing in a very short space of a time. A thick skin and a coat of armour should be a requirement of the job criteria.

@Russell

Yes I know and I agree with you on that point. Its so frustrating , I've been a Magpie and now Tigers fan for almost 60 years. Just how we get ourselves into this position each year especially over the last last 8 years ( we still only stop paying Sheens out three years ago) just baffles me.

As to point 3 i don't think Maguire will sack himself...

point 2 is Funny ... Roosters don't develop players they poach them after the hard yards are done...

@happy_tiger Is someone stirring the pot in the playing ranks? For a coach to have a presso like that ,somethings not right !

He just did a mini Bellyache about 6 weeks to late..

When Bellamy said pretty much the same thing after the Storm lost a game that is he will find players who do ..everyone lauded him as a genius...Was something not right down there..I wonder,,

I reckon something big will happen Tuesday ......

4pm ?

Yep ...probably wrong ...but someone's milestone might be delayed

Do people actually believe that because a coach gets cranky at a presser, the team will actually start performing?

Wake up people, we're not the Storm

@TIGER no it just elucidates the fact that the problem isn’t with the coach but the players... we have gone through several coaches because it all falls back on them when the cattle they have is not up to standards. We now have a coach that realises That... good starting point.

Don't expect the current crop to suddenly lift. I would expect that it means that the coach realises that these guys are not compatible with his coaching.

Nope. Not this crop of players.

@TheDaBoss In fairness to the Coach they look like cancer spots that got removed / burnt off.. Just not a good time for this lose to happen.

That isn't true at all.

The problem is everyone, together. Just because the coach gets cranky doesn't mean the fault is all on the players. Plenty of ordinary coaches have blown up at media conferences in the past.

And I absolutely refute your suggestion that Madge is the first (or most recent) coach that realises that it falls on the coach when the roster is sub-standard. Every coach knows this, it is Coaching 101.

Madge's job is to get the best out of the current roster and set plans in place about improving the roster over his tenure.

On the first I'd say Madge is about 50/50, where about half the roster has improved in 2019 and half gone backwards. The team is arguably about as well-performed overall as 2018, though with less wins.

On the second - Madge has had next to no time to make recruitment decisions, though he has been very active on retention. So he needs more time on that one. We all also recognise he is hamstrung by finances.

Ultimately roster improvement is not just about buying the right players, but making the club a desirable destination for good players. On that front we are in the bottom half of the competition and Madge needs to improve this also.

The word "characters " was an interesting choice …maybe someone is already ready and loaded

I agree and that choice of words struck me as well. I couldn't entirely decide if he meant certain players and their egos/style/capability or if he meant characteristics of the team as a whole.

If it was the former then he is definitely gunning for someone(s).

This post match interview is the reaction I’ve been waiting to see from our coach..... Change is in the air!!!!!

That was epic thanks for posting ...
Poor bastards on a hiding to nothing with this roster .
He knows what he’s got won’t improve and he knows there has to be a complete squad overhaul.
If he keeps up the beard , in 6 months he’ll be a dead ringer for @Geo lol

Madge ...what 18 weeks Coaching Wests Tigers will do

Was what stood out for me too. The way I've interpreted it - certain players within the team. Obviously I could be very wrong with how I've interpreted his words.

Next 7 rounds will be interesting as will the offseason.

I doubt the knights old boys would put on a show . Better of waiting for Leichhardt the following week.
That way he can familiarise himself with the scoreboard along with several others who should be shown the door !
