Best & Worst WT Signing Ever?

I was thinking Ellis originally but when I think of it the signing that had the biggest influence on the outcome of our best year? You can't go past Scott Prince, so Prince for mine.
Our worst there is many to choose from, there is 2 brackets for the worst , 1st :worst signing ( value for money) and the 2nd : ( not even 1st grade material)

Best - Prince
Worst - Cayless (in the sense that he was a stellar player when he left for England and was just awful by the time he got to us.)

Anyone who has Blair has rocks in their head. They're letting his packet cloud their judgement. And Lote? Really? Scored something like 25 tries in 40 odd games, not bad really…

Best - Ellis/Prince
Worst - O'Hara/ Cayless. Got shortlisted out of a strong list. Both came with big wraps and potential and fizzled.

When Cayless came to us from England he had chronic injuries which we could never rehabilitate but, injury free, could have been a great signing. A bit harsh to name him as a dud, he couldn't help being injured.

And that's why he's our worst signing IMO. We signed him on past glories and knew full well he spent weeks upon weeks on the sidelines in England with shoulder injuries and he was well past it.

Yes, I suppose that's right but at the time we on this forum thought he was worth a shot but I don't think it cost us a lot and the signing was a gamble. I tend to look at higher priced signings when thinking about which ones were duds but I do agree he didn't work out for us at all.

apart from cayless, there havent been any really bad signings made post 2005.. pettybourne maybe?

ellis by far the best signing post 2005.

funny how if this thread was done this time last year, most people would've said blair. good on him for redeeming himself this year and the backend of 2013, i personally didnt give him a chance.

Yeah agreed think you make a really good point in regards with Blair .

when he was first here i said that i gareth ellis would be the best signing the club had ever had. but thinking about him now - even though he won (2 was it?) club champion awards - he doesnt really stand out in my memory! so even though quite a few others have him as the best, i am going against my own prediction and would have scott prince as the best.

even in 05 when everyone was gushing over marshall i was of the opinion that prince was a far bigger reason the tigers won it.

as for worst…well, unfortunately there have been quite a few... as far as hype compared to results, i would have to say john grant was a huge disappointment. but i think the signing that still stands out to me was jason moodie. i really couldnt believe he got signed and he never did anything anyway! didnt he get signed straight from some country league side?

Best: probably Prince, his competive will to win stood out like a beacon in '05….pity he sullied his legacy at WT with the slimy, undignified way he left the club in the lurch when he shot through to the Titans. Worst: on a purely 'money down the drain' note it would have to be Jarred McCracken, didnt we sign him on a $2 million or so contract?- extravagant money that was unheard of for a forward back in those days-and he played 10 or 12 games from memory. wasn't his fault he had to retire though thats for sure, was one of the worst tackles you would ever see from Kearney and Bai. he was very bloody lucky to not end up a quadraplegic from that.

Nick Graham just beats Trent Runciman on the basis that at least Runciman wasn't proven first grader like Graham.

Craig Field was a pretty bad signing. One of the worst halfback the game has seen.

The best ….Hodgo ...Glorious player

The worst...John Hopawate.....inglorious player...

Hoppa was awesome for us for the majority of his stint at WT, was very unlucky to not get selected for NSW during those seasons IMO…. just a shame he decided to go hunting easter-eggs up Cowboys' players shorts. Apart from the Potter/Farah debacle this season Hoppa's antics are the only other time I was ashamed to be a Tigers supporter.

As far as underrated signings go, Paul Whatuira tops the list. Its criminal how often this guy is forgotten. Should never have left.

Your all forgetting Hayes Lauder and Makasini Richter…..gawd the list goes on....

Our best Hodgo
