They still have longer term concerns over the injuries Weyman is carrying and getting Hunt back to full fitness. As I understand it Slothbo also took a pay cut for a chance under the Bennet structure

Sharks must still be paying a huge portion of his contract - there is no way the Dragons could take up that sort of slack or expect the bloke to take half his contracted pay!

He still has year remaining on that contract and any shortfall will need to be made up by the Sharks!

I agree Yoss - I assume the Sharks are retaining a liability of around $140,000 for a player who will be at a rival club!
The only benefit to them is it no longer counts against their salary cap - but this is a club who can hardly afford to spend to the cap limit as it is - and they still have no CEO (as a cost-saving measure)!!
No wonder they are financially up the proverbial creek!

Well exactly. And with dumb decisions like this and Karl Falinga it's not hard to see why. For years they've held out for this pipedream that they will be able make a motza on the land they own down there. It's only very recently that they've worked out that maybe they should consider plan B before they're all bussed off to Adelaide.

At the end of the day most NRL recruitment would involve the coaches (apart from Parramatta apparently). As I understand it the recruitment officer is more like a scout for younger players.

They don't have a full-time talent scout/recruitment officer as we do in McDonnell, the Roosters O'Sullivan etc!
They have used their U/20s coach Joey Grima in the scouting role in the past two years - with recruitment overseen by the head coach!
This has been another cost-saving measure by the club - who cannot work out where to best spend their limited funds!
