Big Rumour doing the rounds . . .

The only thing I heard is that they are one of several teams to breach the second tier cap. It's about time for that press release this time of year

would make my day/year if true

i just messaged my mate who works for the dragons, hasnt heard anything. he would tell me if he had

Breaching the Cap is a common occurance… Its just the level which make the difference between Scandalous or bad management...

Its Uncle Waynes fault....

Don't know how much by. My source is a guy from Channel ten.

Thanks for the tip mate…....it would be justice that they face the same punishment as the storm. Please God let this be true!

They did last year too, but it was only a technical and minor breach. We've done it a few times also. Usually fined a few ten's of thousands of dollars and then that's it.

Do you know if it's more substantial than that bug?

I would not have a clue. Looking at their reserve grade side pulling out, I'm only guessing but I wonder if it has something to do with how your 2nd tier cap gets used if there is no reserve grade.

Trying to find out more this arvo.

I believe the only club who hasn't been pinged for any kind of breach over the past 10 or so years is Manly believe it or not.

Probably a second tier breach . Strange to have one at this time of year though . Usually you don't find out about second tier breaches until late in the season

Just to hijack the subject but how come the Steelers/Dragons haven't come under any critcism for not having a NSW Cup side, Manly bowed to pressure to bring back their players from the QLD Cup but not much has been said about the demise of the Shellharbour side.

As much as Id love the Dragons to get into lots of trouble through breaching the salary cap.
For the games credibility do we really want to see a 3rd premiership in 4 years come as a result of cheating… If this is true and if it is a large scale.

The National Rugby League has today outlined Salary Cap breaches against the Wests Tigers, the Gold Coast Titans, the St George Illawarra Dragons, the Parramatta Eels and the Canberra Raiders following the completion of all audits into the 2010 season.

The largest breach notice is in relation to the Wests Tigers, who claimed a ‘long serving player allowance’ contrary to advice from the Salary Cap audit team.

The remaining breaches across four clubs concern the use of second tier players and the categorisation of education grants, accommodation and termination payments.

“The compliance across the vast majority of clubs has been encouraging but the penalties are a reminder that the Salary Cap will be enforced,” NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, said today.

“Six clubs were breached last year, most notably the Storm. It is pleasing to see the number down this year but the warning bells for anyone looking to break the rules could not be any louder.

“For the most part we are seeing a genuine wish to comply with the rules from the clubs but this remains an area in which we are always conducting thorough investigations.

“The Salary Cap audit team works incredibly hard to monitor the clubs and deserves considerable recognition for the role it plays in making the Telstra Premiership the closest and most exciting competition in Australian sport.”

The 2010 Salary Cap Breach notices are as follows:

Club Fine
Wests Tigers $187,140
Gold Coast Titans $76,380
Parramatta Eels $44,988
Canberra Raiders $31,657
St George Illawarra Dragons $15,694

The Titans have also been breached a further $2,500 for failing to properly register a Toyota Cup player.

All clubs will have until Friday, May 20, to make submissions to the NRL Chief Executive in relation to the breaches before any penalties are imposed.

I would imagine our breach will be bourne out of both second tier breach and the fact they denied Farah and Gibbs discounts because Balmain & Wests are not considered Wests Tigers by the NRL and as such their time in the lower grade does not count

How Ironic,

The bulk of the Thread was focused on the Dragons and we are the worst offenders when the official statement comes out.

Wests Tigers $187,140
Gold Coast Titans $76,380
Parramatta Eels $44,988
Canberra Raiders $31,657
St George Illawarra Dragons $15,694

Seriously though I'm embarrassed we got caught
