Personally don't like the idea of signing anyone a year early, especially the coache's son. Massive conflict of interest and I've been nothing but positive about the Clearys to date.

If Cleary went to Gus and said I don't want to play here, i won't extend my contract under any circumstances, and i will go to club X as soon as my contract expires or as soon as I possibly can then what would Gus say? Would he let him go straight away? Probably not as he'd need a replacement, but next season would certainly be possible.

They want to use him as the foundation building block for their club's future. If he has absolutely no desire to do so anymore then the Panthers would be best suited to find someone else who want's to be the centre of the club.

Might need NRL clearance seeing he's under contract for 2 more years?

If Cleary leaves, Martial Law will be declared in Penrith. They are up there with us when it comes to retaining juniors, hopeless. Losing Moylan and Cartwright in the same off season is not far behind us losing our 3 this season.
