G'DAY Wests Tigers fans in Macarthur. Welcome to my first column in Tiger Talk.
Firstly, I want to say a big thank you to all the Wests Tigers supporters who have made me feel very welcome since I arrived in Sydney from the Melbourne Storm.
All I can promise throughout my four years here at Wests Tigers is that I will always give 100 per cent each week and play to the best of my ability.
OK, so the season is now two weeks old and Wests Tigers have one win to our name.
That first up win over Cronulla took a lot out of us all due to the extreme heat. I must say it was a great game and it was nice to be able to run onto Leichhardt Oval to a cheer instead of being booed as was the case when I was with the Storm. And what about that field goal from Benji. Incredible.
Despite our loss to Manly last Friday night, I thought we turned in a solid performance.
We dominated the first half and it was great to score my first try for my new team.
We were confident at half-time of going on with the job but our task was made even harder after losing my second-row partner in Gareth Ellis with a nasty cork injury. Gaz was having a strong game on the edges. His departure, coupled with a few mistakes of our own, saw Manly take full advantage and before we knew it, we were on the back foot and were chasing the scoreboard.
On a positive note, I thought our young props in Aaron Woods and Matt Groat really stood up to the challenge of taking on the experienced Manly pack.
This Friday night, we take on St George-Illawarra at WIN Jubilee Oval. The Dragons are always a tough side to beat at home but I'm confident we can rise to the challenge.
The following week, we return to Campbelltown Sports Stadium. I hope all our supporters will be there in force and help us get the two competition points. Until next time, see you at the footy!
