Blake Austin in 2015

@alex,totally agree,Austin may have had his faults but his work ethics were second to none,if only some of the more experienced players had offered as much as Blake maybe our situation would of been better…

The worst decision the Wests Tigers have ever made. Makes the signing of some of the duds over the years seem inspired. Our best player this year, here on a second tier contract (so savings on his contract are minimal) with so much to offer in a position - centre - where we are really struggling. And of course, makes one our opponents that much stronger.

It's a bad move to let him go but if another club is giving him a huge increase in pay and a guaranteed starting spot can you begrudge him for wanting to go?

Make no mistake I want him to stay, and I thought he could be well utilised as a centre if he worked on his one-on-one defence but it's not my call. I'll reserve judgement until next year.

@PymblePete,it is a shame however he wanted the 6 and wasn't going to get it with us because of Mitchell…..
@CB,you absolutely right,a much better pay cheque and the position he wants.....

Cheers....

Off field everything looks rosy

On field , so far we have lost Gavet and Austin and replaced them with Kevin Naiqama and a player I'd never heard of before we signed him

Sucks.

He had 1 year @ the tigers?

He is a player that oozes class on and off the field.
Massive loss.

Wests Tigers release Blake Austin
>
Wests Tigers have today confirmed that the Club has agreed to an early release for Blake Austin.
>
Austin’s manager has made a number of approaches to the Club over the last few weeks and confirmed as recently as early last week that Austin had agreed to play with another Club in 2016 and 2017.
>
Austin’s release follows the announcement that James Gavet will be joining the Brisbane Broncos with Wests Tigers Head Coach Jason Taylor wishing both Austin and Gavet the best of luck at their new Clubs.
>
“On behalf of Wests Tigers I’d like to thank both Blake and James for their efforts while here at the Club and wish them well at their new Clubs,” said Taylor. “Both players have made it abundantly clear that they saw their future elsewhere and therefore we had no hesitation in granting their release.
>
“We understand that Wests Tigers supporters will be disappointed in their decision but it gives the Club an opportunity to review the playing roster for the coming years,” he said. “We’re committed to building a strong Club for the future and need to be sure that the players join me on this journey.”
>
Austin played 19 games for Wests Tigers during the 2014 NRL season.

Off season has only just started. Seems that the manoeuvring that happens between campaigns now is becoming more frequent. That's why I reckon the NRL should just bite the bullet and have two transfer windows: off season and the month of May to allow clubs/players to negotiate moves for signings that didn't work out.

Totally agree about the transfer windows

We finally pick up a bargain basement buy that has worked out and he's gone before we get the true benefits

Weak decision.

The only reason he would make it abundantly clear he wants to play somewhere else is because of the way the rest of his so called team mates dogged it last year. You could see it in the last six games, he couldnt even look them in the eye. His on field performance backed the coach. Once Potter was gone Blake was a dead man walking.

Pathetic management of the situation, its the others who should have been shipped off to Canberra.

Guy oozed class. Typical of our management style. How we let this guy go is beyond me. He was heads and shoulders our best player when the rest of the team had given up last year.

Could have been a future captain. He'll do well in Canberra, good luck to him.

The key to me is this.
On behalf of Wests Tigers I’d like to thank both Blake and James for their efforts while here at the Club and wish them well at their new Clubs,” said Taylor. “Both players have made it abundantly clear that they saw their future elsewhere and therefore we had no hesitation in granting their release.
Taylor wants commitment, these two couldn't give him the 100% he wants,so whilst not ideal,it is probably a great decision.

Could you really blame him though? Probably dirty at the way Potter was treated and the efforts of some of his team mates late in the year as well.

I do agree though that if he felt his future laid elsewhere, you don't want someone who doesn't want to be here.

The problem is that Taylor has basically said that Moses is a better prospect Austin

I haven't seen that yet in any of Moses's performances at NRL level

And now if Moses doesn't take the next step , we have no back up plan bar Moltzen

Can't agree with this. What a shame, would have liked to see him stay and play in the centres and there will be massive serve of egg on face if he goes great in the ACT as well.

Saying that, I can't blame Blake for wanting to leave as he was made to stand in line behind a dinosaur to start with, then a kid. Wouldn't fill you with confidence in the club.

The first words out of his mouth are Mick Potter. Its very deliberate wording. As i said in the earlier post he was gone once Potter was gone.

His mistake? Being loyal to a guy who plucked him off the scrap heap and gave him a go.

No room for loyalty at the Wests Tigers, only little cliques.
