Blake Austin is playing the game of his life

Watching this dogs raiders game, does someone want to remind me why we let our best player by far last year leave?

if he was the best according to you - he'd still be with us
what do you know that we dont
by the way - your avatar never stops to amaze me
love it

Biggest loss of talent ever by this club, even bigger than Fifita. He will play for Australia one day.

Pfffft Scott Prince was a bigger loss than Austin.

I'd forgotten about Prince, it was so long ago! He wasn't much of a loss the way he was playing in his final year with us though.

Playing the game of his life???? No, but he played as usual with a lot of energy and was very competitive as always.

One thing for sure if he was in our 17 last night he would at some stage crossed the line. He is that sort of player that lifts a team when the chips are down. At present we badly need a few high energy players. Still mind boggling we let him go but being a Tigers man nothing ever surprises

Maybe his best, but still not to the level that Moses showed against the dogs in one of his first few games.

Blake was good for us as a utility, but had a good offer that we could not possibly match and wanted out. Should we have forced him to stay and hold him back like the Sharks are doing with Gordon? No of course not for mine, so we let him go, yes we agreed to his request.

Now we have a BS comparison poll in another thread. Let it go people, he has moved on, time for some on here to do the same and let bygones be bygones.

I would be surprised if money was the reason he left, more like he knew , or was told he would not be given a chance at 5/8 as it was already decided who would be there no matter how he played
But after seeing how he is improving, listening to how some keep trumpeting Moses as a SOO player, shows a lack of reality.
Austin is actually showing that he has the ability to do so. While Moses fan club keep referring to His feats as a junior and in Lower grades, something that he can't replicate in first grade, which happens to a lot of"next best things"

Moses has to firstly make first grade,( austins done thatin a big way, ) and if he was in any other club he would be back in reserves by now . Then he has to improve enough to beat blokes like Bird and Keary ( and Austin) just to name a few
I hope he can do it, but nothing I've seen so far, shows anything like the legend that surrounds him. And (as it's pretty obvious), I'm getting pretty sick of seeing a defensive liability, with maybe 5 minutes of activity as his complete contribution to a game.
Whether it's his fault, or Taylor's, I don't know or care anymore, But for Gods sake please put someone in there who can make a contribution to the team, even if it's only someone who isn't a speed bump.

Comparisons between AUstin and Moses , if looked at objectively , can only have one conclusion

Every time I read someone bagging Austin I think that they really are living in some sort of world of unreality. Fact is, he was great for us last year when most others didn't even try. He scored plenty, proved he was at the time the best we had, stated quite clearly that he wanted to earn his much wanted no.6 jersey and did, by his own actions, more than enough to warrant ownership of that. Now, at Canberra, when everyone says they're a lost cause of a club and team, he plays a starring role week after week and still, people here say he's no good. I can only shake my head and wonder what it is certain players need to do to be accepted as a top notch player. Yet, those same judges refer to unproven hopefuls as a better option. Go figure…...

Can we please bury this thread.

I like Blake Austin a lot, he is tenacious and a real competitor. I would not have let him go if we could have avoided it.

But we signed Brooks and Moses for 4 years before Austin even came on board. We tied up a lot of our salary with that decision, and we are committed to playing Brooks and Moses for as long as we can.

Austin does not fit into that plan. He knew it, we all knew it… it was not fair to keep him hanging on as a #14 or backup.

So enjoy his play at Canberra, god knows they have next to nothing else in the halves. Wish him well. Stop carrying on like a devastated ex who cannot get over the break up.

I was actually glad he went as he deserved better than he was offered. Love watching him play. I just struggle with people that won't see his obvious ability.

I'm with jirskyr. I was disappointed Austin left as I liked watching him play and thought he led from the front, but I'm not going to cry over spilt milk.

Yeah,he had that x-factor with us when he interchanged, similar to Thurston's time at the Dogs, just needed a permanent starting spot to get his confidence up and a good coach to tame his wild style.Stuart must get some kudos for what he's done with him.
