BLAKE Ferguson is torn between his loyalty to the Canberra Raiders and a craving to return to Sydney to be with his uncle, Anthony Mundine.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the blockbusting centre wants out from the final two years of his Raiders contract, which he signed less than 12 months ago.

He will approach Raiders coach Dave Furner before the end of the season to formally ask for a release.

Every club in Sydney would want the NSW State of Origin star, who could ask for upwards of $500,000-a-season.

Only St George Illawarra have been ruled out, because his minders understandably don’t want him at the same club as his old partner in crime Josh Dugan.

Canberra Raiders winger Blake Ferguson is a bolter for a NSW State of Origin spot.

Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan and CEO Steve Noyce are aware of the situation and are desperate to get him back into a Sharks jersey.

Parramatta Eels coach Ricky Stuart is also close to Ferguson from their days in the Shire.

Their relationship was so tight that there was a clause in Ferguson’s contract that should the coach leave, he would become a free agent. He activated it and joined the Raiders.

The Ferguson situation is almost identical to Dally M champion Ben Barba and boom rookie Anthony Milford, who want out from the Bulldogs and Raiders, respectively, on compassionate grounds.

They are both expected to join the Broncos at the end of the season.

Ferguson has a great relationship with Furner, who has resolutely stood by him despite a number of serious issues at the Raiders.

He is also tight with the Canberra players, who have been just as solid in their support.

The long and lonely hours away from football are the problem.

He desperately misses Sydney, having recently spent a month under the care of Mundine at his home in Sydney’s south.

The Blues star is still undergoing counselling and feels his best chance of moving forward is by having the boxing champ permanently in his corner.

Mundine recently told The Daily Telegraph about how he was caring for Ferguson and getting his life back on the rails.

"My focus has been to get him right mentally," Mundine said.

"To get his head strong.

"I’ve been teaching him my philosophies on mental strength so that, when the time comes, he is going to make the right choices.

"And believe me when I say he will; that he’s turned the corner … I’m expecting nothing but greatness from now on.

"With a strong mind, Blake will be the best centre on the planet. Not a good centre, not a great centre, but the best centre anywhere."

Ferguson is rated as rugby league’s next big thing, potentially another Mal Meninga, Gene Miles or Justin Hodges.

He recently missed six weeks of football after being stood down by the NRL when he was charged with indecent assault following a night out with Dugan.

He has pleaded not guilty and the matter has been adjourned until September 3, days before the final round of the regular NRL competition.

Despite the lay-off, Ferguson made a barnstorming comeback to the NRL for the Raiders against the Sydney Roosters last Saturday night.

It was as though he hadn’t missed a game.

The performance didn’t go unnoticed by Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens and his selectors, who will soon finalise their World Cup squad for England in October.

On the same weekend Test centre Justin Hodges broke down with a season-ending achilles injury, Ferguson proved he is the ideal replacement.

They wont release him but if they do SIGN HIM UP NOW! Imagine Nofo, Simona, Ferguson and Kofo in a backline…WOW!

They might. When people ask for releases they're usually granted I mean if not it'll just become increasingly obvious that that player doesn't want to be there.

Personally don't think we should sign him though, he'd be carrying an origin price tag these days and is just a winger/center, and I know we need more centers but it would be smarter to get a solid one for a cheaper price than a superstar one for a massive price

Geez having Mundine as your "mental" helper couldn't help you too much.

On topic phenomenal talent, but a complete tosser. Would say yes because of his skills, but would also say no because of his attitude and behavior. Tough one.

I think we're pretty comfortable for wingers/centres for the next few years. We need some big units in the backrow. Unfortunately not many off contract now though.

I've been saying it for a while now, but there's no one in the Tigers pack who scares the opposition. Taupau, Gavet, Sue, Siro and BMM may become these players for the Tigers. But you just have to look at the Dogs, Rabbitohs, Warriors and Roosters sides to see the effect the big boys can have on the modern game. Guys like Fulton are great, but they're workhorses with little attacking bend-the-line type impact. You need a good mix. This is why I think we struggle in a lot of games.

Compare - JWH, Friend, Kennedy, O'Donnell, Cordner, SBW, Nuuaisala, Guerra.

With - Woods, Farah, Galloway, Blair, Thompson, Anasta, Sue, Siro, BMM, Buchanan, Fulton

Who would scare you more?

we won't get him we never get the big name players. it'd be funny if he ended up at the Sharks. then him and Todd can get OTP together and be new BFFs

The only way that we can attract big named players to our club now is to pay massive overs…. Would you go to a club where your contract could sit on a table unsigned for months? Or where you don't know who your team mates or coach will be next year. Or you might be asked to leave half way through your contract. Or where the two sides of the franchise are not getting along as they should. Or a club that is struggling financially .
I could go on but it depressed me greatly just typing it....

Love to have him here.Sick of being the club who doesn't want players because of there behavioural history. They are not bad forever but usually good payers stày good players

To be honest we'd be in a better position than most to get him. We're under the cap for next year and still have a lot of players off contract that we can ditch. We also have one of Mundine's besties in Paterson coming here next year and he might direct Ferguson this way so he can have Cory's support.

Then again the Dogs might get him since they're losing Barba.

You people who wouldn't want him here because of his attitude/drinking issues are beyond stupid…

I'm sure similar reservations were held by other clubs who were thinking about signing Josh Dugan and look how that situation's turned out. Price and the Dragons players have nothing but praise for Dugan by the sounds of things.

Every club seems to be reaping the rewards of their token 'bad boy' (Cows with Lui, Titans with Bird, Souffs with Inglis, Sharks with Carney, Dragons with Dugan etc.) EXCEPT us....because nah we only sign 'clean skinned, top blokes' regardless of their footballing ability

This is becoming beyond a joke though - players pulling the sympathy card to break contracts. Canberra seems to get hit more than most clubs - i hope they stand on their dig and tell them either to suck it up or sit out the remainder of their contract - in cases like this the NRL should de register the player for the remaining period of his contract - this will stop parasites like the Broncos encouraging players to break contracts.
If it is genuine then a break from football and concentrate on emotional healing would be a good thing - i'm over the crap that i'm so devastated i have to go home BUT i can still play football.

He'd be dynamite, both on & off the field!!
maybe that cld be Sheens full time job next year-as his mentor/minder??
We need a Blake Anderson more than any other club,& we have more $$ to spend than any other club
Not sure the "environment " at WT is best strucure for him tho..

Blake is a tremendous footballer, alot of talent and IMO we missed him a great deal in games 2 & 3 of SOO.

But he's also a loose cannon, which we really donot need in a team that already has a number of attitude issues….and I'm not even going to mention how screwed up our Front Office is ATM with a coach who is also under extreme pressure.

We have some talented juniors at the club in nofo, simona, brooks, moses etc etc etc. We just don't need the distraction. Imagine Blake being a role model for these young blokes......seriously you think we have problems now !!!
