Blake Ferguson

How many times does it need to be said to these guys?!
If you are talented enough, and choose a career as a professional league, afl, whatever, player, here is what that entails:
- a salary unrivalled by any profession for such a young man (unless you are a movie or pop star)
- paid this much to play your chosen sport (ie; awesome job!)
- attention from the public - which is a version of fame.

Now, the last one is the kicker: you may think this adulation and attention is fantastic, but what this also means is you are going to be scrutinised by the public/media to a degree other guys your age aren't.
Some get through this part with maturity and aplomb, others go all Beiber and think they are gods untouchables.

It must be hard and there must be a lot of pressure, but you know what? THATS THE DEAL!

Sure, it may seem unfair that just because of your job your are treated differently to other guys your age in this regard, but that's life and part of the job you chose. You just can't have everything….

FALLEN NRL star Blake Ferguson has been handed a two-year good behaviour bond for grabbing a woman's crotch in a dimly-lit Sydney pub.
Ferguson was found guilty in December of indecently assaulting the woman during a night out at Cronulla's 2230 Bar, where he was celebrating his NSW Origin selection with teammate Josh Dugan.

Defence lawyer Adam Houda told Sutherland Local Court on Monday the former Canberra Raiders player's public fall from grace was punishment enough.

Ferguson's turns on the sports field catapulted him from a troubled childhood to a "world of celebrity" but his lucrative career was now in tatters and his reputation "savaged", he said. "Football was his only way out of the gutter," Mr Houda said.

"To lose your only source of livelihood - in the hundreds of thousands - and to be humiliated is punishment enough."

Boxer Anthony Mundine was in court to support his cousin.

Magistrate Jacqueline Trad said it was "naive" for anyone in the public eye to expect to escape scrutiny after committing an unprovoked assault.

"There was nothing in this situation that could be considered that it was in any way provoked," she said.

"There's no excuse, there is no circumstance where it could be appropriate to cross that line, whether or not it's caused by intoxication or whether or not it's caused by past difficulties."

Anthony Mundine's father Tony Mundine - himself a former boxing champ - said he was optimistic about Ferguson's chances of returning to rugby league.

"Blake is very lucky he got two years of bond," he told reporters outside court.

"Now he can go on and try to get a club to play for."

He said Ferguson was "going good" and was a changed man since he stopped drinking.

"If he gets back on the booze I'll knock him out," he said.

Tony , do the planet a favour and knock him out anyway I'd pay to see that

What do you expect his lawyer to submit? That he should be locked up for life?

Whoah! What're those sirens blaring?! Look! It's the hyperbole police! A billion of them!

Of course not. But maybe a little contrition and acceptance of responsibility on his client's behalf, not some puerile excuse, would have been better.

A mate of mine was working there the night it happen and said this …Blake was talking to her and her boyfriend the boyfriend was at the bar and the women was flirting with him trying to make her boyfriend jealous and at one time was sitting on his lap he leaned over said some think to her thats when she said he put his hand up her dress which was a dress that went just below her knee after that Blake her boyfriend and her spent two hours talking and drinking champagne together at the bar .....

Its strange that after he felt her up Blake the boyfriend and her was drinking champagne at the bar for two hours and none of the staff knew that a sexual assault took place and no one called the police

Very Strange

Yes, well, you got this from a mate of yours, eh? Well it seems that the police investigation and the testimony of witnesses led to him being found guilty in court. Yep, guilty as charged and now, even though it may be at the lower end of the scale for sex offences, he is now a sex offender and has been sentenced by the magistrate. I just have this strange feeling that, given that there is to be no appeal, justice has been served and your conspiracy theory is just, well, a conspiracy theory.

Not so strange at all, really

The court system is built to hurt these young lads. I am dubious over whether he actually did something worthy of this punishment. Women throw themselves at these guys. It's not a Brent Stewart allegation! The kid is lost and needs some guidance from a strong coach … Wayne Bennett Esk. He is a freak on the field and so young. Most of us would be before courts, or have been, on that money and with the fame. Needs a mentor other than mundine, and a side that will treat his immaturity. Don't think we are the team but if he picks up his act he will be a top 5 player

What Punishment?

A Behaviour Bond isnt a punishment. Its an opportunity to move forward. He now has the opportunity to be responsible and act like a normal person.

It's up to Blake now.

These guys live different lives to most of us here on the forum. I suppose if you are a footballer with lots of money, in nightclubs with lots of alcohol and lots of pretty ladies ….... there's always a chance you'll end up in lots of trouble. Shame he can't find a decent woman to keep him on the straight and narrow.

Yeh the footage is damning, don't know how he avoided a jail sentence, now he wants to play NRL this year,so watch for some clubs trying to"help this young bloke through a tough time in his life".

Regardless of the actual incident, the way he's spiraled out of control just shows he's a sandwich short of a picnic.

He screwed up at the beginning of last year with the rooftop incident, then got given a second chance and had the world at his feet when he made the Origin squad, then goes and pisses it all away with this. His actions for the rest of the year were so immature. Regardless of any underlying talent, the guy had rocks in his head and we dont need that sort of behaviour and mentality at the club.

I always thought it was one thing for people who pronounce the term that way, but for people who actually type it. Geez, you aren't a friend of Blake are you?

Yeah GNR, had a little chuckle myself when I read it. Up to seventeen pages now, the fool has attracted plenty of attention on here.

We can only dream to get someone of that quality.

_Posted using RoarFEED 2013_

Of what quality are you referring? He has gone from a "nobody" for a hell of a long time to a "somebody" by virtue of his obvious talent and some commitment on his part. But, really, I think his default position and mindset is to be a "nobody". Let him do that somewhere else.

That version differs greatly from the CCTV footage, the testimony of all involved including ferguson, who thought it was another girl, cause he likes blondes cause he lives in Cronulla

Lets hope Mayer doesn't bring this bloke to our club …. Would have a lot of trouble cheering for Ferguson .... Same as I did when Hill, Field and Hopoate came across.
