Board members

I have been a financial football club member for 22 yrs. and it means nothing because both Wests and Balmain are still focussed on the individual clubs (lower leagues etc) and who will hold power at the WT when they sit on that board. The issue is that we have no football club at the WT due to the way the business was structured so a club membership or football club membership to the individual clubs means nothing.

Unfortunately the only way to change things is to lobby the board directly but I don't know who all the board members are or have their details and the other way is to vote with our money / feet and boycott the games etc but this is self defeating because we will assist in the demise.

I truly believe that we have to let this board structure continue to bleed out internally and publicly to envoke a desire to change from within.

We need to force structural change at WT. My suggestion yesterday of doing it through the Balmain board may too hard, but the point remains we need to force the change.

As far as waiting for it to bleed out, I believe it is bleeding enough now. If change is going to happen in the structure, we need to do it. We could petition that unless an independent WT board is established, seat package members won't renew.

We need to act

Don,t get excited 1981 ,I know what your thinking and it won,t be that easy…some cool heads need to prevail as I,m sure there is a way though this mess...

The only way I feel change can be made is through the NRL. ie NRL dissolve the Wests Tigers, take the licence away and set up and independent board. This would keep the brand name and would allow them to base the team in any region they desire. Ashfield, Tigers and Campbelltown Leagues can then put money in through sponsorship without having a seat on the board. The two respective football clubs can then take care of junior leagues and any lower level senior teams they wish to field. What legal stuff this brings up I'm not sure though.

Going through the respective joint venture boards is impossible.

If the Wests Tigers are dissolved, rest assured the license will not be available for another Sydney based club.

Us and Cronulla gone, Perth and Qld team in. I dont think the NRL would lose too much sleep over this.

The Magpie vultures are having a field day over this today. They're pulling out their old 1970's Victa jumpers and are saying ''finally our team is back''. Some are even saying they'll be back next yr. Gotta feel sorry for these people.

**Who owns the land/property at Balmain Leagues Club in Rozelle.**
What is the estimated value of this property?
Is the property fully owned or used as security/mortgage for outstanding debts/loans?
If so what is amount of debt owing?
On which annual report is this asset listed?

I'm from the Balmain side of the JV originally, and would be happy if Wests Ashfield brought out the Tigers Debt or brought board seats off them to alleviate the financial pressure.

As long as the side remains called the Wests Tigers and the 'Tigers' side is not alienated ala Nth Sydney, I don't have a problem with that scenario eventuating.

Only issue is that Western Suburbs were also an administrative basket case for decades, so did Ashfield play a role in that? Do they have the nouse to take on a bigger role football wise (we all know they can run a business, but an NRL club is a different beast).

Just my thoughts …

Not "were". Our board is dysfunctional for a reason.

Good point Abe

Youre spot on and while Wests Ashfield is thriving, and it usually has - while the football club was left languishing

You ask me to put up and i did.

Problem?

For goodness sake everybody don't jump to stupid conclusions. Every team has its ups and downs. If you are a Wests tigers supporter fanning the fires like this WILL CERTAINLY lead to the club's undoing. Be positive and don't bend to the wishes of trolling non-supporters.

Both.We have already hit a lot of home runs this year with getting rid of a lot of deadwood re players now its time to address the club at a board/structure level and we will see the rewards in the upcoming years.

Agreed 100%!

I think the NRL should dissolve this basket case, start a new club based in MacArthur with a set timeline where once the new club has paid back all money the NRL used to set the club up, then give the club to it's fans. MacArthur is where the future is at and the NRL really has to keep an eye on what is happening now and act accordingly.

The board are using Potter as a scape goat. They fail to acknowledge the fact he's blooded 8 debutants this year, 3 who have made the NRL Rookie Team of the Year, while there were numerous players who had < 5 first grade games and two of them earned their first rep jerseys!
