Forgotten who it was but remember something about Tim Sheens banning a player from wearing head gear because he said they were useless and gave the other team something to grab onto that could prevent a try or slow the play the ball down. Anyway all this type of stuff could come back and bite the NRL

A lot of these older players never played in the NRL era, they would have played under ARL or NSWRL and that might be a problem.

He lost.... I think the NRL paid his legals but werent forced to.

Its a contact sport,if they are so concerned these days about the severity of concussion on the players,make them wear approved headgear ...you can go out and tackle an opposition player in the correct technique,but if you misstime your tackle or slip for example and hit his knee full on and get concussed,who is to blame the attacking or defending player...big grey area where the fault lies...however if the NRL is to get fairdinkum,then it must completely overhaul the OH and S policies relating to player safety,no mean feat....:sleuth_or_spy:

There is quite a bit of research that shows that headgear doesn't have any benefit in relation to concussions!

That's right. Apparently what the headgear does is protect against cuts and splitting your head apart with clashes etc

I would imagine moving forward that if a player leaves the field for an HIA he will not return regardless of outcome during game time .. reckon at least carrying a couple of reserve graders to cover for this during game .

Problem is they don’t always have reserve grade on at the same location

Imo they should have 4 on the bench and once you are subbed off you can’t come back on unless blood bin or hia

Doesn't even prevent cuts ......have a look at Thurston's head 30 seconds after the GF is over .....
