Books

This book arrived from Washington, with the postage not much less than the cost of the book😒. It's very rare - the Dogra Regiment. The Dogra's originate from Karnali Pradesh, near Nepal. The book was printed and published in India, the d/w is very colourful.

The internet has been valuable in allowing book readers and collectors to access the catalogues of international bookdealers. I have benefited from access to UK, US, Canadian, NZ, South African and European bookdealers. The only downside of buying internationally is that money is not being spent locally and the cost of postage is near prohibitive. For example, postage for a regular sized book from New York or Washington to Australia is $75US or $105.56AUD. I should add after buying the book and accepting the $75USD postage, the seller contacted me to advise the book was oversized so an additional $50USD is payable although I had the option to not go ahead with the purchase. As the book is very rare and chances of it being available for sale in Australia are next to none, I went ahead with the purchase.

A late bookdealer told me years ago to never get into the book trade if you love books! It reminds of a lady who owned a rare bookshop at Lindfield. Unfortunately, she died and her estate administrator found a warehouse full of rare books she could not bring herself to sell 😁.

I rang her one day and she had a fine copy of a book I said I would buy. All of a sudden, it wasn't for sale anymore. She was a really nice old lady.

This book was published in 1983 with a card cover and spiral binding. With only 137 copies printed, it was rare from the date of publishing. This is the second copy I have seen, and I missed out on the first.
