The Contender hero Garth Wood gets his chance against mundine tonight at acer arena. I have little respect for mundine because of this and that, but he's alright - dont hate him - but he is right when he says that wood is a wrestler - it was evident throughout the contender series especially in the big fights. But thats the prize for winning the contender with dubious scorecards throughout the series, a debacle. I cant see Mundine losing otherwise i'd say its the end of his career.

If Wood had any slight chance of winning, Mundine wouldn't be fighting him.

Also he's bribed Wood to fight at Middleweight rather than Super Middleweight which is a common Mundine tactic. He talks about fighting the big whales but keeps fighting minnows…

Wood will have to knock him out. You can bet if it goes the full monty the judges will "award" the fight to Mundine.

Mundine will win on points if he is allowed to fight on his own terms!

If Garth can get inside his jab and bomb him with over-hand rights - and if he manages to land a couple - then Mundine's suspect chin will again be tested! Garth is super-fit, he can take some punishment and he should be able to go the distance if he does not lose his head in the early rounds!

He is super-unorthodox and could give Mundine some problems - but the stripping to 73kgs will harm his power - and he definitely needs a k.o to win it!

I hope he can end Mundine's career tonight!

In real boxing news Kostya Tszyu is to be inducted to the International Boxing Hall of fame along with Tyson & Chavez.

A timely reminder of when Australia had a true champ who sought the best opponents in every fight he ever signed on to

We still do have such an Australian World Champ smeg - his name is Vic Darchinyan! He is another guaranteed hall-of-famer and is still one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world!

He has gone up in weight divisions twice to seek the strongest opponents and won multiple titles at three weights - he doesn't get the respect he deserves!

Of course. Almost forgot about Vic when he switched to being a Parra fan.

It is a shame that the attention goes to the loud mouth here like it did to the US in the nieties

He still has a soft spot for the Tigers! It was just Green & Knowles who turned him to the dark side!

Nice to see Nate going spastic in his bro's corner!

I don't know why Mundine is such a moron.

His comments recently stating that we don't respect Crowe were pure gold. I don't like seeing him lose because I think he has a lot of talent and he is Australian but he seriously needs someone with half a brain to help him out.

I don't necessarily agree with that. He has talent yes, but I think his speed and agility cover up alot of his flaws, as shown last night. If he didn't have the quick jab, he wouldn't have come this far.

Always happy to see Mundine get knocked out but that was truly a terrible bout.

Wood is an attrocious boxer, last nights contest was just rubbish. Wood is a scrapper who will soon enough be healining pub fight cards

I am no Mundine fan but Wood clearly strikes out with the right knee as Mundine is going down. Who knows if it made contact or not or if Mundine was out until this happened

Have to agree with you Smeg. Very scrappy looking fight with neither boxer looking sharp or slick and once again Mundine hit the canvas from a blow which looked more like a haymaker than anything else. Still good to see him go down, but I can't see Wood going to far against stronger opposition.

I totally disagree. Garth Wood is going to be written off in every fight he has and his awkwardness is going to always put him in with a chance. He's one of those boxers that will beat the best and lose to schmucks because fighting Garth Wood is a lottery.

I'd side more with Smeghead. It was a poor standard fight and a strange tactical fight from Mundine. Maybe Mundine was too obsessed with proving how tough he was and wanted to prove he could out slug Wood. In any event he did a shocking job of keeping Wood at distance and using his jab.

I've seen Garth Wood fight a few times now. He's as tough as but let's face it - he is a very limited fighter. Hard to see him having an impact offshore but he'll keep being a popular fighter on Aust fight nights for a while. He uses what skills he has very well but like a lot of white boxers, cuts too easily.

As for Mundine he really needs to bite the bullet and either retire or train big time and fight someone with a bit of international cred. He doesn't have time to warm-up for the the next 2 years fighting plumbers and Thai taxi drivers.

Looked like Benji in the crowd judging from the Fox Sports report I just saw. I assume he was there to support Garth…

The majority of Mundine's fights have been of poor standard either due to the quality of opponent or due to his tendency to hit & run!

Garth did what he needed to do last night by closing the distance between the two and bringing the brawl to Mundine! Garth is not a pure boxer - and Mundine owns him on that score - but he is a banger and that was always going to worry Mundine as he does not like to get hit or get his hands too dirty!

Like his dad (who was a champion) Mundine has a hugely suspect jaw - and is prone to knock-outs from ordinary punches - and that means he has no real future against quality fighters!

As for Garth cutting too easily - the split last night was caused by a head-clash (as were some of those during the Contender series) - these are hard to avoid when you brawl like he does at his best! He will never be a world champion - but he can now claim a legacy in Australian boxing!

Benji was at the fight with Lote, Bryce, Heighno & Moltz!
