Brandon Wakeham #267

Yes he did, but ever since Doueihi has been stinking it up big time!
Problem is Sheens is forcing him to play as a halfback ... when he isn't one.
With Wakeham at half he looked great in the 6.
Sheens obviously doesn't believe Brooks is the answer as a 7 either.
Hopefully Wakeham can improve Brooks game.
Sheens did the same forcing Benji to play at halfback and it didn't work then either.
Never learns.

We've been down this road many times, brooks just doesn't combine well with certain players. Same reason he played better with Reynolds and mbye over Doueihi, brooks played his best footy with Benji in 2018. I see a lot of similarities between Wakeham and a vintage Benji. hopefully, they can build a good combo for the year.

My Mrs thinks Wakeham even looks like Benji 😂

Interesting to note that Freddie Filter had big wraps on Wakeham when he was a schoolboy. Coming through at the same time as Haas and Big Stef and apparently led Westfield to the trophy in the halves. Freddie said he was the standout.

Didn't kick on at the Bulldogs but might be an uncut gem that may just come good. Already shown hints I. The trial and vs Bulldogs.

Dogs were too structured think he could really kick on here if allowed to play what he sees and given a fair go

I’d caution anyone to expect Brandon Wakeham to lead a victory against a Melbourne Storm team who Bellamy would have primed this week after two consecutive poor outings. We are going to be rusty still. I’ll be happy with incremental improvements in our attack and a strong defensive effort.
on the other hand we often (for some unknown reasons) play like the world beaters against the Storm.

Thoughts after tonight's game ?

Could be a bit more involved for mine...
Appears to have a crack though.
Gets involved in defence...

Not the worst performance (that was Brooks' go) but not the best either.

he was ok, needed to be involved a bit more, i honestly thought we looked more dangerous with him on the ground then brooks did the whole night, he actually defended really well tonight...im s eechless with Brookes, the coaches have to have the balls to dro him, he was diabolical tonight, beyond bad!!

He didn't shy away in defence which was pleasing to see. But after last week's high, he was largely ineffectual in attack. The story of his first grade career has been one good game, four bad. Anyone thinking he's our saviour will be disappointed.

The Raiders trial and Bulldogs game were red herrings. Wakeham is still the same poor player he was at the Dogs.

We don't have a single half at this club. Scary times.

“I know that if I don’t play good footy then I’ll be out of the team, so it’s on me to do my job. If that’s not done then I’ll be playing reserve grade.”

Only for some Brandon....
Mate they don't even bother pretending the Brools thing is a non issue. No real sense that he's even in the team, other than the fact he is always bloody picked

I'm disappointed Doueihi was given kicking responsibilities. I think a traditional half like Wakeham likes to control the game and a big part of that is through the kicking game. Having doueihi kick confuses all that. The fullback should be the one chasing the kicks and you basically never see the fullback as primary kicker because of that. Even if Doueihi is a better kicker (and I've seen little evidence of that) the halfback should have kicking duties. I think Wakeham's lack of involvement was partly down to taking that role away from him.

Yeah Douhie should be playing lock of he can defend. To slow I the backs.
