BREAKING - MARSHALL LEAVING

Benji saw the writing on the wall his Ego has been put back in line with the rest of the team and this has been hard to swallow.
Privately the majority of the board were hoping for this to happen , it frees up a lot of money for someone that was past his best even Benji knows this but will never admit it.

Let's all face it we were all hoping he would re capture the form that saw him one of the best running 5/8 we had seen but this was not the case.He cannot play a structured style of football and all the top teams have structure.

He has been poor for the last two years and its obvious the Tigers did not offer the money being reported in the Media it was more around the 600,000 mark which was 100,000 increase on top of the 500,000 he was earning.

Thanks for the memories and I wish him all the best ,but I do look forward to the future .

Some of you blokes are really building Brooks up for a fall. Lets not build the entire future around a kid who hasn't even played first grade.

all brooks needs to do is kick on the last tackle and he'll do a better job than benji has all year. anything else is a bonus.

Good luck Benji.

Hope we sign/extend contracts with: Sue, Naiyaravaro, Koroibete, Simona, Brooks, Moses, Seumanufagai, Santi, Lowett, Luani, Fine, Akauola.

Go Tigers

I for one will be sorry to see him leave.

I remember his first touch of the ball in first grade, the outrageous sidestep, the improbable flick passes…...I was amazed that Wests had finally picked up a kid that was a future superstar. I know he is not Andrew Johns or Cooper Cronk but to be fair they didn't have some of the skill that Benji possesses.

I am also very nervous that our future will now be in the hands of relative unknowns. It is fine to have a youth policy but that youth needs time to be nurtured and developed. There may be some more long seasons ahead.

I find it a bit sad that people are reacting like this. Remember in 2002-2003 we were a laughing stock and within 2 years had won a premiership and turned into one of the most marketable clubs.

Thanks for the memories Benji - you will always remain a favourite Tiger

I very much have mixed feelings. He's been at the Tigers since I can genuinely remember. He's a club great and produced some of the greatest attacking play rugby league has seen.

But all good things come to an end eventually. Benji has looked disinterested and I really feel he needed a change and a new environment if he was to find his best football again.

He'll be missed by many, especially the younger brigade.

If he goes, he goes, good luck to him. I don't feel sorry or that there was any unfinished business that he wanted to accomplish by extending his contract for a further 2 years. All I know is after reading all the stories on the way he ran the club and thinking he was bigger than everyone, he only thought of himself. Mate this a team sport, thing won't get any better elsewhere. The boys club is dead and buried. Hats off to Mick Potter, keep it up, love the way you have put the club first. And let's also spare a thought for players like Tom Humble, Mitch Brown, Fifita and on and on. Benji thought you where a dud and it was see you later, how times have changed. No wonder he can't let himself to play for anyone but the WT, others know what went on and don't want a bar of him, he's beat everyone to the punch. Finally, the way he exits will only make it easier for the club to make a decision on wether a return in the future is possible. Once again good luck, thanks for all the joy and rubbish you have given over the years, as it just added to all the excitement.

Nice post mate. Some people have very short memories.

I will miss him but a realist to know his shelf life with the Club is probably at an end .I will cherish the memories of the last 10 years and hope he sees this year out in style.
You can't bag the bloke for seeing the writing on the wall and rolling the dice with a change of employers whilst he can hopefully bank on his marketability . It is a shame that we could not have retained him in a development role somehow beyond 2015\. I guess I better try and get his signature on his book I bought a few years ago soon…

Why would we get the spoon? I can see Luke Brooks bursting into firsts next year and us picking up some good players, that's over 1 million dollars in the cap free mate.

Benji may not be in form, but the majority of our attack still focuses around him. His potential replacements are untested, and it's probably too late to buy any decent alternatives.

I'd love to see Brooks & Moses step up (though I doubt they will be chucked in together at first), but I also fear we're going to have another Miller or Tim Smith if we put them in before they're ready.

Meh, maybe I'll be eating my words in a years time, but I foresee some floggings and 5k crowds next year at a time when we're financially vulnerable.

Its a bitter sweet night. I'm not cheering that hes leaving but I'm not that sad either. I think overall its a positive move for us.

Benji achieved great things for us, cheer him as a club legend, wish him the best and stay positive for the future!

Sad news and disappointing, what happened to wanting to be a 1 team player?

Could be a ploy I guess to try to wrangle more money…........

I don't think he'll have any success in Union if that's where he's going, he's struggling to find the gaps with 13 players on the field, be even worse with 15, not to mention his kicking game.

We'll find out next year if Moses and Brooks can make the big step into the NRL, was expecting 2015, but it appears it'll be sooner than that.

Well I didn't see this coming I honestly thought he would take the upgrade, like few have said my feelings are mixed. Looking at it from his point of view maybe he's thoughts are the club don't want him I honestly think in time he will look back with regret.
It would have been good for him to bring along the younger brigade its really unwanted pressure on them now if we weren't before we are truly in a rebuilding phase now I have a feeling potter may now look to England for a stop gap experienced half til these guys are ready.
Thanks for the memories most of them are very good ones especially 05 best of luck what ever he does I don't know what I'm going to think first time I see him in another jersey.

You make out as if you are in the know

Not really just get a bit of mail sometimes on the Tigers that's all.

I'm guessing the Footy Show will be done with him after this year also. Can't imagine them wanting a union payer as a regular. He must be kissing goodbye to a bit of channel nine money there surely.

That being said, all the best for the future Benji and thanks for all you've done!
