Brenden Santi signs with Eels

I am devastated…he was a future leader at the tigers...seeing him play the last few years he will be a very very good first grader.

People saying he is not a big loss i'm assuming have not watched him much...

But is this still speculation????

Watching him in the U20s Origin earlier this year Tigersmurf, he made a number of clean breaks and was very dangerous.

No, Mayer has confirmed it.

Everyone is saying we can't sign everyone

Well we haven't signed everyone , and not even close to it

With Brooks and Moses unsigned still and a few more leaving , we still have a lot of work to do with our retention for 2014 and beyond

Our club will always be the target of vultures such as the eels. Great juniors will attract rivals

Vultures such as the eels? we stole him off the dogs a year or two ago.

Stole him ? The dogs let him go…and you have to ask why they let him go in the first place.

Now we have let him go..big deal. Good move Mick Potter. We have Sirro and Lovett local juniors coming through that will be our long term backrow. The more local juniors the better.

Which local juniors mate? We got forwards coming up who were Aussie school boy captains?

Big deal Aussie schoolboys..Matt Groat played 2 years running in Aussie schoolboys. A guy by the name of Daniel Irvine was captain and hooker of Australian schoolboys he edged out a guy by the name of Cameron Smith.
The dogs let him go for a reason and now we have.

Tigers though wanted to keep Santi. Mayer admitted as much. However with a top 25 contract and the lure of first grade a lot closer at Parra, you can't blame the kid for leaving. In terms of where Santi was with us, if he was close to cracking first grade here, he'd be playing a lot more State Cup than he has been. From that point of view, he'll jump the queue at the Eels and fair enough from his point of view. Good luck to him. Fair to say they could use a player of his attributes.

I said before I thought Santi was a work horse but he did not strike me as a over skillful player, maybe that was a little unfair as I can see him developing into a rangy edge runner like Hoffman with a big work load.Time will tell, but could be the old story of the one that got away, although going to Parra could kill the best prospect in the worlds future.

Dont mind Mayer and Potter, refusing to pay overs but we cant afford to many more average years, sponsors and fans are very fickle

Can't say i'm that dissapointed - yes he has potential but he is a small backrower (95kg and only 181cm). He isn't a Wests Tigers junior having come from bulldogs only last year. He probably wouldn't see much first grade is one of those tackling machine types and would be a fulton replacement but Fulton is here for 3 more years. Reminded me of Matt Hyland who also left for Parra I think and hasnt ever seen first grade. We also have in Lovett and Sue better young backrowers and the couple of blokes from SG Ball - Matt Woods and Tatola, etc

While we have salary cap space - that doesen't mean should pay any more now then they were willing too before or the money is wasted.

Lastly given Parra's history of singings and thier club he is going to the strugglers - I don't remember too many people getting better at the eels

As for the comment above about look at them now - well never heard of Isacc Lui and Matt Ryan is being released by the team that winning the wooden spoon

From the U20s other then those who have resigned I only see Moses, Brooks and the young forwards up from SG Ball as nessecary plus perhaps Hoiter - Rowe hasnt been able to keep his fullback spot and Rudolph the same, i dont even think they make our u20s starting side at full strength

Agree. I think re-signing Lovett was the way to go but I'll be interested to see what happens with Andrew Vela as he is coming off a knee reconstruction.

I always rated him too, but I was always concerned about his size and the ability to make the step up to the NRL. He seemed like a liam fulton or david stagg type of player (small but works hard) only not quite as skilful. I can see why we didn't make him a top priority (as we already have fulton!) and perhaps some of the other juniors offer something different for the team.

Tackles a lot, and has a decent brain, but may not ever make a huge impact in attack when playing with the big boys.

I also believe he may not have the best record off the field. I've been told by a fellow tigers fan who was at the same pub that he was almost arrested a couple of weeks ago when involved in a punch up in the city when having a few drinks with his brothers and mates. Could be a one off, and he may not have done anything wrong, and perhaps was just trying to break it all up, or maybe he swung a few - who knows, no news seemed to be released on the matter - so its hard to tell!

If Eels wanted to pay overs for him so be it. I think Sue has the same work rate in defence and offers more in attack. The NRL is dominated by big boys these days, even in the backs, so smaller players will have to be extra good to cut the grade.

Sound like your mate know as much as us, regarding Brendan's off field dramas, bugger all.
Why even tell the story if you've got no facts.
Does nothing for the Santi except gives him a bad name.

I cant see Rudolph staying which is a shame, i think he has real potential, maybe Payten isnt as popular as a Coach as some people think?.

Santi isn't eligible for NYC next year, so its a moot point.

These kinds of statements about guys who have never played first grade always have me shaking my head. Just like the time someone predicted Brooks would play Origin in 2015.

Mayer didn't seem happy he left. And who said we just "let him go"?

Money and a first grade spot is one hell of an incentive for a 20 year old.

When they leave they always say that….Potter doesn't seem happy Benji is leaving but i bet he is doing handstands in private...they all play the game very well.
If they want to keep a player they will. If they don't it's salary cap pressure blah blah blah...sorry to see them go.

HAHA, who was that?

I feel he may suffer a similar fate to Tedesco…. He'll probably start off a bit better than teddy though cause he's not coming of an ACL but I doubt he'll set the world on fire Koro style and make Origin in 2015\. Could happen, but he'll have to live up 100% to his apparent potential for that to even come close.

Outta curiosity, what were the raps like on koro before his debut on here? I only joined over the summer.
