BRET team to play Wentworthville in trial

The worst thing about the current rotation of gains and losses is that neither feeder team is running with a halfback or a hooker worth a pinch of the proverbial once Miller goes to NYC

Politoni is a good prospect at hooker smeg - but he is also still NYC eligible!!

That's the thing at the moment. BRET have had a couple of the NYC eligible players trial for them such as Miller and Tagive (although wing can be readily filled by a number of players) which would leave a creative gap in the team. Miller has looked sharp so far, but if he drops back to NYC, who steps in?

Would Waters shift to halfback to partner Meaney? And do BRET persist with Hyland at hooker? So far he has looked anything but slick playing out of dummyhalf.

so who are the balmain ryde eastwood western suburbs magpies tigerhawks playing this weekend???

What happens to the players not selected for BRET? Wasn't there a rule around in years gone by allowing players to switch prior to June 30 (I think it even happened a few times between BRET and the Maggies). Will this still be the case or will they go back to local A grade?

I'd imagine there would be a few noses out of joint over at BRET from last years players. Overall its created a very messy situation

The Irony is that Balmain never had to merge in the first place and if they didnt the Magpies would not have played a game after 1999.

They might have done what Souths did and take the NRL to court and won.

At NSW Cup level they would exist. Even Newtown and Mounties do.

The truth is NONE of the foundation clubs should have been kicked out or forced to merge but that's an entirely different subject. **I'm not sure why you brought that up.**

Because you seem to have a lot against Balmain considering they saved you.
Im not going to argue about this though. We have been Wests Tigers for 12 years now. Ive supported Wests Tigers for Longer than I did Balmain. Its time that alot of you older people move on and stop wishing the past was the present.
I am a Wests Tigers supporter and like the majority of us am happy with the way our team is.

See this is a mind set that I am worryed about. Do you believe the joint venture should be 50/50 or favorite towards Balmain just because Balmain was higher on that stupid NRL criteria list in 1999.

The simple reality of the joint venture agrement is that it was a launching pad to begin a new history whilst still preserving the symbols of two foundation clubs and their history at an NRL level.

The joint venture has passed it's tenth birthday so it is time that we pay homage to the history of the Western Suburbs Magpies and the Balmain Tigers through symbolism and heritage games at NRL level whilst being 100% for the future we are blazing as a new and unique entity

As much as I think his line of argument is a bit OTT, his basic facts are right. Balmain were above the line for exclusion/inclusion and Wests were below it. If there was no merger Balmain would be struggling along trying to survive and the Magpies would have been in the courts with the Bunnies.

However, I don't think this argument holds too much weight these days. A joint venture is just that - there is no hierarchy …
