OFFICIAL Brett Hodgson appointed Assistant Coach

Lol, if only we had Payten back from that mob, the one who can actually coach 😂

Nah, he’s too focused on rugby league and winning games lol. I bet he dosnt even know what the fish of the day is at Sud!

I don’t know about you but I want a coach who knows what the lunch special at Cucina is on any given day. Todd is just a dinosaur who doesn’t know he’s already extinct.

I thought GI was supposedly doing that? Not disregarding Hodgo’s talents, but there were few more talented than GI at the back.
Would have Hodgo working with a young fullback anyday over GI.

Those hard working, get everything out of your talent type of players like Hodgson are the ones who can teach a talented youngster things. Guys with low workrates and phenomenal natural talent like Inglis can't teach anything.

GI was more of a mentor rather then coaching Bula positional play, line running and timing, workrate expectations etc.

What aren't we getting Slater up a few times a year is what i wanna know....
Just pay the money!!

How much young talent we gonna bring through without giving them elite guidance.... Halves, Hookers, Fullbacks....

We hurl em in the deep end and stand there with the Floaties hoping they don't drown.

While I admit to not knowing much about coaching, surely one of the main roles of the assistant coaches is to compliment, (and I mean 'add to', not applaud), the head coach's skillset. There are very few head coaches who have all aspects of coaching sorted - Bellamy and Cleary may be exceptions here. Even the great Wayne Bennett is heavily focused on man management and has made great use of his assistants - especially at Origin level - to support him tactically.
Perhaps it is possible that Hodgo excels in those parts of coaching that Benji struggles with. Just a thought.
I think Bellamy is more hands off as well nowadays . I guess he can afford to as his program is well and truely in place , and would kind of run itself to a large degree .

Your take on Inglis is way off imo. No one dominates at every level by not doing extra work behind the scenes. Latrell is a prime example of a low workrate who has never had sustained success for NSW and Australia.

Just for reference on the perceived nepotism of the tigers on this hire , I point to you exhibit A in regards a culture of nepotism ;
The storm head coach is C Bellamy
His assistants are A Bellamy and Brentnall . A storm lifer . They also have 1 Billy slater helping out with the storm attack design .
You want to talk about nepotism , I don’t think it could be any deeper there . And that’s the best club in the game .
This all too say , we’ve been trying the mercenary route since fired sheens first time around , when his coaching staff was basically himself , Royce with the cones , Steve Georgalis etc.
I don’t really see an issue where everyone who has a say in the club , actually gives a shit too a level similar to all of us .

I’m trying to work out if “chalk and cheese” or “apples and Oranges” works best here. I’m undecided. Let me think on it and come back.

It’s a template . People have been saying follow the storm template .. which was the blowup around the Hodgson hire …. And that’s literally what they did . Is all I’m saying . None of those named are exactly household names , outside of the qld coach .
I don’t think there’s 3-4 gun assistants waiting in the wings of the nrl right now . Like a few years ago we had Fitzgibbon , ryles , ciraldo , Barrett wasn’t tarnished yet , Morris had a rep , Hornby. There was some names out there . Now it’s all guys who are probably just as talented , but don’t have the shine as these guys did .
