In my belief it was all over at the point that is was one word against the others and the history of mental illness of the accuser was bought up. Like it or not that and the bias against a father with the history he has meant there was little chance of conviction.

It would have been useful if the Police had taken a blood alcohol level on Stewart at the scene but I am not aware if it is in their rights to do so as he wasn't in control of a motor vehicle

But what his his alcohol level have to do with proving the truth one way or the other?

It would help determine the crediblity of Brett's story. If he blew something low, you would have to believe he was in full control of his actions.

I wonder if non-Manly players will be offered the same opportunity

When I heard he was found guilty, I told my wife "Brett Stewart got off". Maybe not the right choice of words in the circumstances…

I assume channel 9 offered the young girl the opportunity to an interview as well to hear her side.

PR exercise, nothing less. My wife scoffed at the thought he "felt for the young girl." Complete garbage.

He has every right to comeout and say a few things now that the dust has settled. He has had to sit on his hands and bite his tongue for a year and a half now whilst this girl has said her piece through third parties.

What did you expect him to say about the girl on national tele? His reputation has taken a battering already, it would be a dumb move to say that he hated her guts and that she was a mental nutjob…..

Absolutely. I thought Steve Irwin had been reincarnated, there were so many crocodile tears in that interview. Read nothing into that, yet another Channel 9 'special', designed to generate sympathy for the 'innocent' and protect 9's investment.

In a society that's generally free of original thought however, the interview would have achieved it's purpose. You only have to read some of the responses in here…..'Brett will return to his beloved Brookvale....' etc.....Oh please....

Looks like a few here have found him guilty by club association despite trying to convince us otherwise.
Pathetic.
You know who you are

I'm amazed at people who always assume that the bloke is at fault with these things.

For me, its scary to think that we now live in a society where any girl has the power to make those claims and immediately people jump on that bandwagon. A large chunk of Bretts life is ruined here and he may not have done anything at all. There certainly was more than enough doubts about the credibility of the girl and the father in this story to cause reasonable doubt.

It's terrible that people still assume this bloke is scum after being acquitted…. outside the fact he plays for Manly.

This. For the people who weren't there (ie, everybody except Brett and the girl), you're either believing the footballer, or the girl with credibility issues. Personally I think it's a no brainer over whose story is more credible. The fact people still call Brett scum is tall-poppy syndrome in action.

In this particular case, the right decision has probably been made. However, there have been so many sexual assault charges levelled at footballers, from various codes over the past few years, and not one of them has ever been found guilty! And, most likely, they never will be. I don't know why they even bother having the trials. Surely not _all_ of the alleged victims are liars.

Regardless of the outcomes of a legal case, I wouldnt say they were liars. The courts dont determine 'what happened'. The court only provides a solution based on the evidence…

If you look at these cases as a whole, it would appear a vast majority of the cases relating to footballers are represented by very high profile lawyers who don't seem to find it hard to discredit the alleged victim?

This case is a little different, but sadly It's become a case of "no means no" vs. that Mufti dude... How scary is that???

Now his mrs has left him. Gee…...I wonder why.....

Maybe he was lazy and not taking the trash out or did not do other chores around the house.
