No good if true. I want him to wait for them to sack him and have to pay him the $3.2 million. If he walks away with just $1 mill you can safely assume he would be getting the rest of it by under-the-table payments.

I don't trust Broncos one bit, and if it was a player absolutely they'd likely do what you suggest. But with a coach, there's no salary cap, there's no limit to the money they can pay to them (at the moment anyway).

If they paid him some now, and the rest later, it'd make no difference except to save some public face. Is that what you mean?

Isn't there something called the "soft cap" or some such new-age garbage where spending on the football club is limited? I thought that included coaches, assistant's etc. So the Broncos doing it this way have saved Seibold's next 3.5 years of his contract, now the payout doesn't count towards the soft cap for the next 3.5 years? Might have to look up what the rules are around the soft cap. Wouldn't be at all surprising what the Shonkos are up to, they seem to be experts at weaseling out of drama.

I’m sure whatever financial hit the Broncos take in the short term over paying him out, will be well worth it long term. They couldn’t persist with him for 3 more years. If they are smart, they will sign Paul Green.

Don't laugh too hard at the Broncos, we might see a headline in the papers saying

"Tigers sign unwanted Bronco Milford on 800k a season for the next 4 seasons"

You don't reckon it's a bit suss that Seibold has forgone upwards of $1.7 million and decided to "walk away"??? IMO there are massive red flags around this BS. Not many people would give up that type of money......he could've dug his heels in for 5 more weeks, most certainly got sacked from the job but walked away with about $1.7 mill extra for the remaining term of his contract.
Smells like money will be paid under the table, maybe he will get an unexplainable "loan" like the one Andrew Gee organised? What a joke.

This was barely 18 months into a 5 yr contract

Can you imagine the pressure fans would of put on him if he had stayed 5 yrs

And he would have become unemployable in the NRL if he stays the whole term

If we did we should get Bwaith in as an assistant coach.

Pretty sure I read that it was introduced in 2017. I'm computer illiterate so can't post link but I googled it and it explained it to an extent.

It's called the Football Operations cap and includes all costs associated with the running of football operations including head coach, assistant coaches, trainers, medical staff, recruitment staff, welfare staff, camps and equipment, pretty much every employee within football operations and the costs of running the football side of things.

Was introduced in 2018 and started at $5.7m with a 4% increase each year, $5.7m seems a lot but Hasler in his final year a the Dogs had a operating cost of $11m, if you are paying a sacked coach $1m a year and then need to pay another coach it does put a serious restriction on other costs, though some will get around it (did someone say Broncos).

The AFL introduced it about 15 years ago and the one club that has breached the cap in 2006 has languished in the bottom 4 every year since.

He wouldn't have lasted past this season without a doubt....but when he was sacked he would of been entitled to the whole $3.2 million. Walking away "voluntarily" with supposedly $1.5 million seems suss indeed. Why wouldn't he hold out for 5 more weeks and pocket an extra $1.7 mill? Something stinks for sure, NRL will put the ol' head in the sand again.

Did you watch the press conference?

Nope, was at work. There would of been some great spin I'd say. Heard a snippet of him saying he really enjoyed his time at Broncos?????????. OK Seibs!!

Sorry

Weasel their way out of what .....if Seibold wants he can get every cent

He'll never get another role at a NRL club ..but thats his perogative

Seibold will make a magical motivational speaker

He seemed quite genuine when he said how difficult it was to be on a plane flying back when all he wanted was to be with his daughter.

Its the Queensland way and always has been with cash payments under the table(remember Joh Bjelke Peterson and he was the Premier)

One of my first posts in this forum was along the lines of "take the Broncos for the wooden spoon, if it wasn't for the Warriors they would be certainties for the spoon and first coach sacked". I wasn't exactly right but I was pretty close. He is a despicable person, don't feel sorry for him.

Seibold to leave Broncos with $1M negotiated by his manager Issac Moses.

https://7news.com.au/sport/rugby-league/seibold-set-to-quit-broncos-report-c-1260395

I remember they were talking about bringing that in a year or two ago. Not sure what happened to it.

Pretty sure I read that it was introduced in 2017. I'm computer illiterate so can't post link but I googled it and it explained it to an extent.

Awesome! Well yes as you said, maybe it'll be harder for clubs to afford to pay two coaches now.

With Chairman Joh it wasn't money under the table, he just plonked it ON the table.
