Israel Adesanya

Next time there’s a scuffle on the field we will definitely come out on top if we have him in the halves

The pressure will be on Brooks from game one , Imo the only way forward is bringing in 2 new halves ... as this is not going to happen if both Reynolds / Mybe are still at the club it will be one of those .

Tigers have been playing with a different structure in the last 2 games. Brooks has been playing in the middle (like Cronk, Cleary, Pierce) instead of the 7 on the left and 6 on the right that they have been using for years. This means you need 5/8 on one side of the field and the fullback to be a play maker on the other side. It works well with a ball playing fullback like Mbye but may not suit JAC.

Mbye and Brooks are both left footers which is a big disadvantage for a halves pairing.

Someone needs to decide the point of attack distribute the ball to the forwards or play makers accordingly (7, 9 or 13)
Someone needs to support any breaks in the middle (7 or 1)
Someone needs to be the play maker on the right (6, 7 or 1)
Someone needs to be the play maker on the left (6, 7 or 1)

It depends on the strengths and weaknesses of your available spine options which system you use and whether you need a defensive, meter eating or ball playing lock.

This is not from an NRL textbook, this is my understanding based on watching the different structures in the NRL.

No point having Madden on our roster if we aren't prepared to at least give him a go in the 6 or 7. If he isn't good enough and if there are no contractual issues, just let him go.

Musgrove and McIntyre.

Play with an 8 man pack.

Put 2 props and 2 backrow forwards on the bench. Allows the forwards to go hell for leather for 80 minutes. Anyone can take a kick on the 5th tackle. It couldnt possibly be any worse then what gets dished up by the current halves on the 5th.

I reckon have a whole team of fast, strong ball playing 2nd rowers.

Wasnt that Sheens objective?

I guess a lot will depend on if a few of Ivan’s offerings leave the nest. As it stands now and we jag JAC and play him at no1, I would play Moses M and Brooks in the halves and AD and BJ in the centre’s.
Although it would not surprise me to see both Moses M and Reynolds move on, sadly I can’t see Packer going anywhere

You have to have a backup 7. The club feel that he will improve in time and they don't need a more serious option because Brooks is the plan for the next few years. Mbye is the only other choice at 7 and he is usually needed somewhere on the field.

if there are no halves signings, brooks and mybe.
The club has to get value from its marque player- for the majority of the year you wouldn't have known that mybe was on the field.
dooey to centre and an off season of sprint training for the bloke.

I’m not sure about AD in the halves. He may prove me wrong but his passing game looks awkward and kicking game is a bit wayward.

I’m hopeful about Madden but given our defensive issues another turnstyle won’t help.

If we do sign JAC and he plays fullback, I’d say Mbye for the 6. If not, Reynolds.

Who do you fancy?
Brooks & Reynolds
Brooks & Mbye
Brooks & Madden

I'd say AD but he has looked much too good in center. I'm sure he will be there next year. I suppose it's possible Mbye or Momorovski could move there.

IMO Brooks and Mbye are both quality NRL players who would make the top four as halves playing behind the forward packs at Melbourne, Easts, Parra, Penrith, Raiders. Until our recruitment team put a strong pack together, it’s all academic.

Probably going to get flamed but I wonder if any consideration has been given to Momo as a potential 5/8? He is listed as a centre and 5/8. I think he played some juniors and u/20s there. He looks like the type of player that doesn’t rely on pure athleticism and has proven to have football smarts about him.

If we are considering Mbye and AD, I wouldn’t totally be discounting him if we can’t pick up anyone better?
