The secret to the Balmain Junior Rep Teams success over the last 2 years I think can be put down to them having the combined Inner City competition from the age of 13\. Playing against some of those big aggressive kids from Souths, Canterbury and St George have really set the boys up well for the 18 year old competition.
The other districts play bash and barge footy and we really struggle up to the age of 16 but once we get the boys into the gym and catch up with size the way we teach our kids to play good attacking footy really pays off.
I think the reason for this is to compete against the other districts we have to throw the ball around a bit and run them around, hence why we are seeing some quality backs coming through. Our 20's next year will have players from 2 years of national U18 Champions along with 6 players from the National School Champions, they will really give the Holden Cup a shake and we will see some more talented kids knocking on the NRL door.

Interesting points.

On the downside though is the players we lose due to 13 year olds playing against the canterbury teams with all in brawls a regular occurance turning kids and parents off

Haha….we had 3 sent in one game against Revesby...they had none...their ''fans'' yelling out ''get 10''..."get 4"

It got wild...their refs are useless and in a similar mould to paki cricket umps

Don't bag the young kids who ref the games…..bag the ugly parents. As a long time
Community coach and manager (albeit another sport) parents do their kids no favours in the sportsmanship stakes

You are absolutely right tigergirlz …. Some of these yobbo parents are a disgrace.

Most junior level sports use a large pool of junior refs. It is often these kids that cop parent abuse. Just referring back to a comment about fights in junior footy grades

i was comparing at similar ages, we have had a steady flow of good props since the inception of NYC.

IMO i have brown behind the others….. however the club rates him, and he may go onto to be very good.

Penrith junor league have introduced laws that prevent spectators from talking to referees or players (including giving advice) of either side, whilst they play. Basically they can clap and cheer.

They freely admit they have gone too far, but see it as the best answer to prevent ugly parents.

Neil Begovich , was a prop with NYC Tigers who many had big wraps on

Got a trade I believe someone said and is playing Group 6 if memory serves

I remember junior roqica was rated highly around 2010/11\. Saw him for one of the islander teams in the WC. Also plays for the sharks.
