moses is the most volatile re-signing financially.

That is an interesting comment SG. Does Moses want to stay and play under Cleary?

Uncle Benny's blood flows through Moses, he wants cold hard cash…

With the current offer, he will need a semi trailer to carry it. Really, I can't see him being too popular in the dressing sheds with such an inequality in income.

The latest media reports suggest he'll go to Parra, but I'd be surprised if they are prepared to offer more than the Tigers. His value is surely decreasing at the moment.

I hope Cleary stands firm and for that money we make an offer to Bird. Having a bit of size and aggression in our backline will greatly improve our team.

Bird will be outstanding cover for Tedesco also. Should try to sign a decent young half to wait in the wings (Connor Watson or one of the halves from Penrith.)

You don't want to try and overcoach halves , biggest mistake you could possibly make , they become too regimented and you just pick off everything around them

Your really only really drive defensive patterns , you want your entire side to react the same way in every action and decision they make

That's Bellayache and he does it across every side so he knows if he has to bring a player in they fit the square hole they are filling

I think the best example is Kevie Walters as Qld coach

Ok he has this bunch of superstars , but he was majorly involved with this bunch of superstars for a few seasons and with Bennett before that and was a top line half himself

He freely admits he is basically a sounding board for those players and that is exactly the role of a coach when working with halves

You point out what you think they aren't seeing and that's about it , if your spine can't work out the rest for themselves you need a new spine or need to change members of that spine

I can tell you as part of the spine we rarely had a coach pulling the 4 of us aside (unless he had a good joke to tell  ) it was the 4 of us with critical ball runners sorting the crap from the genius

And this is what sorts the good fullbacks from the rest out , 80% of those questions are answered by them , they see it all and know what their own players qualities are and whether they can pull it off or whether it is probable (possible isn't a word you use , means it is low percentage )

Well that's great to hear, raises my coaching stocks.

I can offer:
- very little coaching for the halves
- sounding board for the best players
- tell some dirty jokes in the sheds
- pat our ace fullback on the back
- frown during press conferences and bang on the box glass during games

We are in a good position going into 2018, re the cap situation. It's been frustrating that that these four players have taken so long to commit. However now that the cap doesn't look as big for 2018 and onwards. Many clubs that were chasing our players seem to be in a lot worse position than they estimated. Brooks has now signed for less than he wanted. The ball is now in the WTs court.
It's sounds like Cronulla are going to have to shed some players and are ripe for the picking. I'd be looking at Bird for 5/8 and a second rower from that club.

If Brooks has resigned for that reasonable amount this is super and shows the club coach and board are moving in the right direction In my opinion.

Brooks was looking good before Moses made 1st grade and worked well like others have said with Tedesco.

Moses will hopefully be released and we can even buy a Foran or Bird type to partner Brooks

FINALLY
good signing !

Cleary is a great man manager.
hes a very good coach too
He might be exaclty what a kid like Brooks needs to get his confidence and some new direction back !

progress !

Why is everyone so impressed, 550k a season? Definitely not worth that much at this stage.

I think people are looking to the future. If you think of how Brooks was playing while Moses wasn't in and the possibility of Moses leaving. We could get another cheap half and have money left in the salary cap to pick up some good forwards. This is all dependent on Brooks reaching his full potential of course.

That's cheap for a halfback in a year where every regular first grader and their manager thinks they're worth a million. If true it's less than the asking price too.

Can't look at it like that. It's too simple. Have to weigh up what's available for 2018/19\. First grade starting halfback nowadays that will be their minimum wage going forward. He has 2 years to make it as an NRL half back. If not he will end up in ESL.

I wonder if they had Cleary's sign off?

I've read that apparently Cleary's had a look over all of the contracts.

Yes the SMH reported that Cleary looked over all contracts on the Friday before he was announced, to rubber-stamp.
