Brooks To Hooker In 2022

It’s not the worst idea ever floated. He’s a 6 in my book. His strength is his running game and could be utilised at hooker also. Strong defender and for a hooker would be an outstanding kicker. His defence in the middle would’ve a huge improvement over Liddle or Simpkin.

It's like moving AD to centre, then back to 6 again.
Just another possible experiment.
Would love to see Farah come out of retirement and fill in at 9 again.

Funny I didn't like the idea of Brooks @ Hooker but I would give him a go there in the trials & see how he goes, might just work.

Agree. He either makes a fist of it and we have a pathway forward in that Liddle can be asked to find another club with plenty of time for that to happen and we have Simpkin in the wings developing. That then frees up #7 for Hastings and we continue our hunt for a lock- maybe Doueihi there with off season to train up and hope to god we can lure Lomax, shifting Laurie to 5/8 with Lomax to fullback. (I cant see Manu coming here but you never know, I'd be happy to try for him as well.).

I know its a lot of shifting of backline but lets face it our backline as is, is not working, has not worked, and will never work, as is.

My main concern is his ability to shoulder the workload in defence. He's a good defender for a man of his size, but the defence workload for hooker is far greater than anything he has had to do to date.

@tigerap, Brooksy might kick stones over it. But let's remember that enforcing his will on others hasn't particularly been one of his strong points, at least from an outside perspective.
He might just as easily do what he's asked and get on with the job and if he's not happy and his form dips, I reckon it'll be genuine, coz he seems genuine. As opposed to Mitch Moses who chucked a big sook.
@tigger, It could only work though if he started as the secondary rake. As you stated, the increased workload would more than likely take it's toll and affect the finer points of his game. It'd take more than these few games plus off-season as he'd need to condition himself to the burden and then be able to consistenly throw crisp passes or take advantage of sloppy/lazy defenders. Liddsy is still having this issue after all the game time he's had.
If we did it, it'd have to be for the long-term. Pick n stick, not chop n change.
