Brooks could become one of the best hookers in the competition within 18 months. Especially with Robbie as a mentor.

Whether Hastings is the answer or not, it would have to be a gun halfback available to unseat him.

I reckon Lock is Brooks position. He'd kill it in that position.

Way too small IMO. But hooker and lock position descriptions are definitely changing with the new laws.

Brooks can defend better than most forwards and he can run. He would not be out of place as an agile lock.

Fair call. I just think that some of his skill set would be dampened at lock vs hooker. He could definitely do a job there.

Answer this first. How many runs out of Dummy Half has Brooks tallied?

He has a few per game, doesn't he?

I’m curious. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him pick it up from Dummy half and run. If someone has let me know.

My reason for suggesting lock is that the spine needs to be able to lead the team around, plan for where the play needs to be at the end of the set. I really can't see Brooks ever being able to do that and so I don't want him in the spine at all. He is a good footballer, just a terrible half and I think he would be a terrible hooker as well.

He does this all game every game. The fair Dinkum knock on Brooks is not his organising. It is his executing. Well it is for those that know what to look for.

It might work, but i dont think Brooks would accept a position change regardless. I think his professional ego (and i dont mean that in a nasty way) wouldn't take it. I could see him looking at a change and going further deeper into his shell.

He would have no carries putting our props under pressure, not to mention another small body in defence along with a hooker in the middle.

it's too late in his career to turn him into a hooker. Ben Hunt played both for many years, which explains why he's so adept at it. there are so many subtleties to playing 9 that make it so difficult to make the transition if you haven't played it before. besides, Simpkin is the player we need to invest in. no need to push him further down the depth chart.

if Hastings wins the shootout with Brooks for the 7 jersey then Brooksy will have to assess his options. simple as that.

I think he would kill it at 9.
Little teeny legs, wouldn't have to bend over far.
Great passing game.
Great speed, solid D.
Also would keep @Geo happy.

100%. It seems a no brianer for mine. It would highlight his strengths ( speed, passing , defence with the odd ok kick) while hiding his flaws.

The team would have another option in attack. Get it done madge.

Ben Hunt played 3-4 years as a utility, mostly off the bench as a dummy half, before he got his chance at halfback. You're right that he had way more experience. I don't know if Brooks has played 9 in his life.

from memory he played there for a little bit against the Cowboys at Campbelltown in 2015, right in the middle of the Taylorball days. think we lost that game 8-0. was horrendous.

Brooks could be a very decent 6. Has he been tried there? IMO, I think that should be given a decent go before any move to 9.

Something like :

1. Laurie
6. Brooks
7. Hastings
9. 14. Liddle / Simpkin
13. Doueihi

or maybe Doueihi to centre.. Either way he would need to work on defence, but 13 he gets to float around more in attack

My feelings on Brooks are well stated. (Hi Paws) however if we are stuck with him hooker is the only option that gives me a little hope he can play a role going forward.

His defence us solid. His passing us crisp and he can kick out of dummy half. Off season under Farah is all he needs.
