I like your support of him, and I agree he can finish games and isn't someone who panics in important moments, but if you compare him to Cleary he can't consistently sustain a strong kicking game or make good decisions all the time so for that reason I don't think he's someone who can lift a team, or guide them and therefore he's not a matchwinner. I just think DCE and Cleary and Keary and probably Whighton now, just have that ability to control a game and step up at decisive moments. It's not really a criticism of Brooks to say he isn't that, so few players are, but he too often fluffs a kick in attacking position or throws a hospital pass when we have the advantage or doesn't find space in his clearing kicks. I think he has all the skills, he just doesn't have that mindset, that desire that the other players have.
I have no doubt his 5th tackle options this year have been well below par. if we are to be competitive next year he has to improve his game management or we'll find ourselves in the same position yet again. he needs to improve that massively. as for being a game breaker like a Wighton or Keary I think that's the top step into being the elite. Brooks would have to have a stellar year next year and then build off that again to enter that upper echelon, whether he can do that is up to him, because as you said it's not an issue with skill, it's an issue with desire.
