@The_Patriot **I don't understand this game management concept. It's too undefined and that is a problem when trying to state a decent argument**. I can understand that Brooks doesn't stand up when we need him most ala against Canterbury and Manly. He isn't on his own there though.

I think he is one of our best players and we can build around him but he does need to deliver when the going gets rough.

Yes Earl..thankyou

Well some of you criticising Brooks should remember Manly ran their big forwards at him all night. Why? It is not because of his defence because we all know he is perhaps our strongest defender in the backline. It is because he provides the sole threat in the backline.

What's hard to understand about it?

He doesn't take control of a game. He doesn't lead others. He doesn't identify what his team needs. He doesn't execute on those needs. He lacks the kind of leadership and awareness a good game manager has. Etc etc

He is a good to average player who can sometimes play really well. Just not when his team need him and the pressure is on.

@The_Patriot the only point that cuts it with me there is that he doesn't play well when the team needs him and the pressure is on.

He is a really good player but when we need a win he isn't the one stepping up. It's got nothing at all to do with game management.

@Tigers_Tale

heard it all before....goodness me

Dally M halfback like i give a rats about that accolade. who cares!!
seriously, give him a ribbon after every game why not!

he's never got us to finals footy, thats what i care about. seeing this club improve and become an actual good football club that is consistently playing with purpose, intensity, leadership, skill....AND finals footy.
im not putting that all on Brooks, but for God sake, for someone in such a pivotal position, he is not the answer. facts are facts. hes been our "main man" for 5 years and not delivered consistently. any other club he would have been long gone by now. Fact.

pulled his leg down on his throat did he? you are kidding me? come'on mate thats pushing it....

Good post. We are sick if waiting for a level of football and game management that just isn't coming.

His fans no surprise are the ones who are happy to finish 9th every year and call it a good solid effort.

Can you point out the one's that are happy finishing 9th...without a broad brush..

There was a whole thread last year full of fans calling the season a success.

This is purely your opinion, saying it a thousand times does not make it true.

Once was enough to make it true.... and plenty of other people have the same opinion.

We all watch the same games but don't seem to see the same things.

I see Brooks leading. He is yelling at players around him, calling for the ball (more urgently when we are behind), setting up the back line, calling plays, deciding when to bomb/grubber/kick for touch.

So what is it that he is not doing?

Simple ... he's not doing it well enough.

Brooks needs to move to 6 and we need to chase a Maloney type halfback really badly. This would solve a lot of our dramas moving forward! Brooks has talent but he can't lead a side around. Watch him go if all he has to do is catch and run and think structures second.

I only bother saying it a thousand times because it IS true ?

Yep

Something has to change either time in reserve grade or a switch to 6.

A part of game management is doing what his team needs him to do. All the good game managers know when it is crunch time in a game or in a season. Luke unfortunately just goes through the motions looking to play well and execute. That's not game management, that's self management.

We need some to control the game on our behalf. To take the teams destiny in their hands. Luke isn't it.

Good solid player as I keep in saying but he isn't an organising half. He struggles to take charge.

I just don't get this. Go to a game and watch him. He is barking at people all game. Against Newcs, he was doing 3 quarters of the organising to Benji's 1. You may think he's not good, but he does direct the team.

Then we differ on how well he does it.

All I want is a guy who yells at them then turns around and execute the next play properly.

The other players might respond to that type of "control"

As it is I'd tell him to concentrate on his own execution before he yells at me.

Brooks is high up on the NRL list of players for try assists this year. He is one of only a few in our squad who has made clean line breaks for us this year. In my opinion he and Matterson are the only two really class players we have in our ranks at the moment - and people want to get rid of him? Let Madge keep building a powerful pack around him, and then judge him. It would also help his game enormously if we didn't lose our hookers in the first 15 minutes of our last two games.

@4jtigers I don't buy the line it's other players fault or the coaches he isn't performing. He gets plenty of ball.

yes he does get plenty of ball but not when it's clutch time, most of the time he gets over called... again this is up to the coach to tell them how it should be

Brooks is the best 7 we have and no one on the market is even close. Could he be a better 6 with an organising halfback for sure. If and when one is available that’s a smart move but it’s not happening. The money required for a solid halfback is 600k+
