Following the GIO NSW Under 20s Origin team assembly this afternoon, Luke Brooks, Alex Johnston and Isaah Yeo have been withdrawn from the side.
>
Their places in the team have been taken by Drew Hutchison, Tyrone Phillips and Ryan Matterson.
>
There has been no decision on an 18th man or captain at this stage.

Interesting, I wonder why?

Club before state

A few other players have withdrawn as well so they are fit and healthy for Rnd 9.

We will be without 3/4 of the clubs first choice spine for the next game.

With our luck I would not risk the fourth

I think this is wrong, it's a big deal to represent your state, they should let them experience it.
wrapping players up in cotton wool is not the answer, some of these guys may never get a chance to do it again and denying them the opportunity is poor form

Already experienced it last year.

The point of NYC Origin is to give players a showcase.

Brooks does not need it, nor does any other player running around in the NRL

Usually I'd be a bit disappointed with this, as we'd have a chance to see how his combination with Moses goes against a higher-calibre opposition, but as mentioned earlier, if Brooks goes down, we'll be playing with a second/third-choice spine. Not a good situation to be in.

This is poor form from the clubs in my opinion. It undermines the representative game and basically makes it worth nothing, which is not a good thing for the game as a whole. I just hope that this doesn't impact on the future selection of our players in representative teams - the club should be honoured that players they've nurtured are well regarded enough to be selected in representative teams, and this attitude just spits in the face of the people picking the teams. And if they're going to do this with Brooks, why are they allowing Moses, Woods, Blair & Taupau to play this week?

He'll get his chance in soo with the big boys one day. But I agree it does cheapen origin if the crim de la crem are not choosing to play.

Club copping flak and rightfully so imo…poor form, it is a selfish look.

The NSWRL has accused South Sydney and Wests Tigers for undermining their State of Origin pathways, following the eleventh-hour withdrawals of Alex Johnston and Luke Brooks from the Blues U20s side this afternoon.

Brooks is an NRL player not NYC the club has has done the right thing ,you have to protect you major investments plain and simple , just like players playing in the Micky mouse city/country these games are throw backs to the past and just put added pressures on already battered body's!

Hope the club can still corrects it's mistake if possible or at least acknowledge it.

The club has done the right thing imo.
He's young and already playing in the toughest comp in the world in his first full season in the NRL, he doesn't need the added workload of playing rep football at this stage of his career, it won't benefit him anyway.
Good decision, it wouldn't surprise me if Luke himself even thinks so.

Just hypothetically, who would replace Luke Brooks if were unavailable at this point. Do we have any more spare halves?

You are right. He is not an NYC player, does not play anymore, should never have been selected. Club has done the right thing. I can imagine the uproar on this forum if he played and was out for the season. All the crap about representing etc. would be out the window.
