Brooks

Would I be correct in speaking on behalf of all Wt supporters in saying that Brooks needs to show what he's made of this week, would I be right to think we'd all like to see something other than what he's shown so far? Something that created the hype before he'd even played nrl.
Just to make us feel a bit more secure about the future.

No

You would not be correct. Perhaps a little soft upstairs, perhaps a egg short of a dozen… But correct.... No, absolutely not.

To be fair, where are his targets. Teddy was his go to man and now he has bugger all to work with. In saying that his kicking game has gone off the boil and his running game is not working, but really what do you expect from a 19 year old kid in his first season.

The people in the know still rate him and that will do me

He is a 19 yr who has played 20FG games and in a team that has injuries galore and getting lapped atm. Makes me laugh how some expect him to pull out match winning 40/20 kicks and set up 8 tries each week

I'm not sure about having to do it this week, but if he's shown us already we're in deep s**t.

I think you only have to listen to Robbie or Braith to get an idea on how Brooks is doing. They both rate the kid ahead of schedule for his development. He's struggled in recent weeks due to the poor form of the team. Against the Raiders the other week, No Brooks, no win. That's not the only time that's been the case this season either.

Hasnt impressed me overly. Considering the hype i was one of those who has expected a little more from him.

I have mentioned in another post that with Benji in the team there was always a chance we could win, he was so unpredictable
With Brooks he doesnt step up the extra gear when we need some one to bail us out
He has to take more ownership IMO

Current NSW halfback up against the future NSW halfback

Time to step up.

Why whenever someone expects a little more from a player it is assumed that we expect miracles?
I realise he's 19 and playing his first year of nrl and I've said before I'd be happy just for him to get through the season unscathed, but I'd also like to see him display the things that earned him his nrl start in the first place and the hype and joey comparisons. I live in qld I've only seen Brooks play Nrl and to be brutally honest he hasn't impressed me much.
Now you can make excuses about other players missing and our side going like busteds etc but im talking about his individual performance and I don't give two hoots about former players opinions, I've been watching him closely and there was one thing that everyone harped on about before he had played nrl and that was his defense, now there's one thing I like to see from a kid playing his first year and that's the ability to make their tackles, Brooks hasn't showed me this! imo his defense is pretty weak, I'd also like to see a bit more enthusiasm from him everyone says he's a composed kid and nothing rattles him well I think he's too layed back on the field id like him to show more so I can feel confident in our future im not feeling it I wish I was.

So your saying you wouldn't like to see Brooks display the things that created the hype that propelled him into the nrl?

I agree … When players like Jarryd Hayne , Ben Barba etc burst onto the scene they carved up and lived up to the hype . Then they settled in to the grind of the NRL and produce brilliance more often than not .
Brooks may have well proved himself in the under 20's but as we know it's a miles away from playing in the top grade . The same goes for a lot of our younger brigade coming through the ranks . It's all " have belief " at the moment . I'm sick of hearing that we're building for the future , it's going to take time ...how longs a piece of string ?
I really hope players like Brooks / Moses /Sironen etc live up to the hype but if they don't is it another 2 or 3 years wasted living in hope ... ?

Well both of those gentlemen are fullbacks and they've both had lean times. Luke Brooks is a halfback playing behind a pack that mixes its form and he's learning probably the most difficult position in the game.

I'll leave you to expect the world every game. I'm happy watching a guy who is going to be a great player develop…

I don't expect the world every game , I expected a little bit more from the next " joey johns" . I think it'll take a lot more time than expected . If anything he'll be more of a cooper cronk type player than a joey johns .

Brooks is a damn good halfback. He is running out of speedy backs to pass the ball too so the points are drying up.

^ That plus I think we're playing way too flat in attack IMO . The defence is up in our face before we can attempt anything .

Hmm well I remember Johns when he came along and not every game was a highlight reel. Plus he was playing in a pretty good Knights team. Brooks is, if anything, exceeding my expectations thus far.

It is surprising that an NRL team would have to develop a player for what could end up being an entire season, when they could have played him in the NSW Cup to develop for 3/4's the season.

They obviously put way too much faith, thinking he would sprout his wings in record time, vs having him develop in NSW Cup and get a seasoned, good enough half to warm his seat.

Having Anasta as the baby sitter for a player who hasn't developed much past his first few games, has shown big time on our for and against.
