Brown may be in for Moltzen

WESTS Tigers’ outside back Mitch Brown could end the Tim Moltzen saga after his manager revealed to the Leader his client was willing to speak to the Dragons about a switch.
The move came after would-be Dragons’ recruit Moltzen openly declared he wanted to remain at Wests, despite agreeing to join St George Illawarra from next season.

The Leader understands the Dragons paid about $280,000 a season for Moltzen — significantly more than his current Tigers contract — ensuring they have money to spend for next season.

‘‘If [the Dragons] were to ring me we’d look at it,’’ Brown’s manager Gavin Orr said. ‘‘It would have to be a better deal than the one is he on.’’

Brown has another season on his Wests Tigers contract but could become surplus to their needs if Moltzen stays at the club.

Unable to secure a consistent position in the Tigers line-up, Brown was considered as a likely candidate to fill Moltzen’s fullback position next season.

But with Moltzen likely to remain in the No.1 jersey and Brown’s preferred centre position secured by Chris Lawrence and Blake Ayshford, the Gymea Gorillas junior could opt to shift to the Dragons.

‘‘We’re not rushing into anything,’’ Orr said. ‘‘But if someone was to knock on our door we’d consider it.’’

‘‘ has become the jack of all trades but over the next couple of years he wants to try and cement a right centre spot.’’

Brown, 23, joined the Tigers last year, having made his first-grade debut for Cronulla in 2006.

Discussions between the Dragons and Tigers regarding Moltzen were continuing this week.

How about we offer them Grant and Humble ??

These are my two smokies for the year!!!! I would not be gettin rid of these teo, even in jest.

Ps…....id keep Brown anf Moltz, but if Brown wants to go then i say let him......he is very handy, but not better than Moltz,Ayshford or Lawrence,soooooo..........

We got further last year with Brown at fullback then we did with Moltz this year.

Brows is a very underrated player. There is nothing wrong with being a solid footballer!

We seem to always want to have something a bit special all over the park. How about just a guy who doesn't make many mistakes and runs the ball back with some gusto?

I'd be happy if Brown went to the Dragons and we could draw a line under this mess. He's a solid player and he's does a reasonable job when put in first grade but he's hardly essential to the team's game plan. Realistically he's going to be a player who bounces around a few clubs and then will probably go to the ESL and carve them up.

Brown will do a Pat Richards - perform well here - have a cult following, then SMASH IT in the ESL.

Agree 100%. With Farah and Marshall, we don't need the fullback to much more than this.

Brown should go for his own sake, for what ever reason Sheens would rather play Utai than Brown at centre, that speaks volumes about how he is regarded. It'd be a loss in depth for us and a loss of a player who could've potentially been anything, but it should end the saga so both teams can concentrate on preseason preparations.

Fantastic news…It's not like we want a fullback who actually attacks the ball and does not s t himself everytime a bomb goes up...who wants that?

How good was Brown under the high ball this year? Awesome leap and the only bloke on our team who you could rely on to take them everytime.

Give Brown the number 1! Moltz to 7 if we keep him.

I wonder what Sheens had against Brown, because you need players with his make-up to complement the whizz-bang players like Benji. I will be sorry to see him go elsewhere, but maybe he will get a permanent NRL spot.

All a beat up by Brown's manager trying to get his client some more money.

Everyone keeps saying brown is a "Solid" first grader..
He has never been afforded the opportunity other then the back end of 2010 to stay in one position for more then a week.
When he was at fullback in 2010 through the last few rounds and semi's he was on fire and I would say a step above just being a "solid" first grader.
If brown was given the opportunity to consistantly play in one position I think he would shine. Similar thing happened with Ryan, all year shifted around the backline then found a home on the right wing and he now has a fairly strong partnership with Ayshford.
