Brown may be in for Moltzen

I would be dissapointed to see Brown go.

Give hi the number one jersey, sign Moltzens release and lets just get on with it!

I wonder how many mates Brown has in the team…lots I'm sure.

Im really over Moltzs attitude

"Daddy, I want a pony...and I want it NOW"

Please don't let a young talent like Mitch Brown leave the club. The bloke never stops trying and he is the only player I feel confident with under the high ball.

All a beat up by Brown's manager trying to get his client some more money.

Everyone keeps saying brown is a "Solid" first grader..
He has never been afforded the opportunity other then the back end of 2010 to stay in one position for more then a week.
When he was at fullback in 2010 through the last few rounds and semi's he was on fire and I would say a step above just being a "solid" first grader.
If brown was given the opportunity to consistantly play in one position I think he would shine. Similar thing happened with Ryan, all year shifted around the backline then found a home on the right wing and he now has a fairly strong partnership with Ayshford.

You make a good point BeeJay. It would have been interesting to see how Brown handled that bomb kicked by the Warriors in our last game, which they scored from and knocked us out.

My first post on here so here goes…

What newspaper was this in? The Leader. Surely Gavin Orr has abit more respect for his player than going ahead with an article like this in a local newspaper.

You make a good point there, benji#6\. Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Very true. Although we're talking about a player manager here - they're willing to go pretty low to generate some sizzle for their clients!!

I'm only new to this forum of about 4days,but I do think moltz will be better for team as he fits in with more of the plays. He also is a very good ball players that pass to ayshford in the semi off balance is wat he is capable of, but that just my opinion

Brown may be used as bait in Moltzen battle Michael Chammas
October 19, 2011

TIGERS utility Mitch Brown could be offered to St George Illawarra as compensation if the Tim Moltzen tug-of-war ends with the fullback staying at the Wests Tigers in 2012.

With the NRL taking over the responsibility to determine Moltzen's home for next season, salary cap auditor Ian Schubert has asked the clubs to submit several documents before a decision is made.

St George Illawarra, the Wests Tigers and Moltzen's manager, Martin Tauber, have until 4pm this afternoon to lodge a mandatory report, outlining all emails, phone calls and exchanges the clubs have had over the past four months in relation to the player's future.

It is still not known when a decision will be reached but Moltzen isn't the only player with uncertainty surrounding his future just weeks before preseason starts.

In another twist to the saga which first erupted on July 8 when Tigers boss Stephen Humphreys labelled the Dragons ''arrogant'' and ''disrespectful'' for announcing Moltzen's signing without informing the club, Brown could be heading to the Dragons.

The Herald understands the Tigers will consider releasing Brown, who wants to play in the centres, from the final year of his contract if the club is successful in its bid to retain Moltzen.

Brown's manager, Gavin Orr, has already been in contact with new Dragons coach Steve Price but the club are reluctant to start talks with Brown until the Moltzen debacle is settled.

Mark Gasnier's retirement leaves a hole in the Dragons back line but with Daniel Vidot and Chase Stanley heading to the club, and with Kyle Stanley and Bronx Goodwin already in their ranks, a centre may not be on the top of St George Illawarra's wish list.

Tigers coach Tim Sheens is wary of releasing the versatile Brown but, according to Orr, would contemplate offloading him if he was offered a lucrative deal elsewhere.

''Tim loves having Mitch,'' Orr said. ''Someone like him is excellent because he can play on either side of the field in different positions. [The Tigers] have allowed me to go out and Tim is happy for us to look around.

''Mitch wants to play in the centres … I've left it with Steve Price, I let him know we're here if he wants to talk more.''

There is also plenty of uncertainty at the Dragons in the post-Wayne Bennett era. Adam Cuthbertson is still without a club for next year and, while he has been tipped to follow Bennett to Newcastle, isn't a certainty to end up at the Knights.

His deal hinges on Con Mika, who will need to walk away from his final year at the Knights to free up the necessary funds.

If Moltzen heads back to the Tigers, the Dragons may make another play at Cuthbertson, but they aren't willing to budge on their original offer.

''We didn't take up the Dragons' original offer,'' Cuthbertson's manager, Andrew Purcell, said.

''That has now passed the deadline and … by the players they have signed since, it's unlikely they'll have room for him in the cap.''

Meanwhile, Wests Tigers back-rower Simon Dwyer was yesterday admitted to hospital and will today undergo a nerve graft to restore feeling in his right arm.

The 22-year-old, who hasn't played since he suffered a brachial plexus injury against Canterbury in round 16, will get a better understanding of his rugby league future after the operation.

Geez, that would make a bloke feel real good eh? For his own sake Brown should just leave - he has been shown no respect at the Tigers, unfortunately.

Fantastic news…It's not like we want a fullback who actually attacks the ball and does not s t himself everytime a bomb goes up...who wants that?

Also, when Brown makes a line break he doesn't throw the ball away. That's one of Timmy's best skills.

If we give up Brown to keep Moltzen it will be one of the dumbest decisions the club has made in recent years. :brick:

One comment in that article that opened my eyes was the one that Brown wants to play in the centres
If this is so maybe the reason Sheens didn't play Brown at fullback was he didn't want to play there ??

I would like to see Mitch Brown get an opportunity so he can show his full potential.
if this is with another team, then i would not be grudge him.

of course I would like for him to be in wests-tigers line up for 2012.
but I'm not the coach.

That's a good point, Happy, but you would think if a spot in the starting line up at fullback was on offer, Mitch would've grabbed it, rather than sitting on the bench for 75 mins each week, or not being selected in first grade at all. For the record, I think he is a much better fullback than centre.

Brown’s manager Gavin Orr said. ‘‘It would have to be a better deal than the one is he on.’’

oh DERRRR! wow, what profound statement! ; )

i would like to keep brown because i think he is great. i think Moltzen should go to the dragons because he signed a contract - legit or not. also, if the tigers can afford to keep him then they should grab cuthbertson!

I'd be more than happy to give the 7 jersey to miller. a lot of teams have either a playmaking 6 OR 7, so i see them losing nothing giving him a go. hey, if he does badly bring back john morris or fitzy to play 7!

i think Joel Reddy will be our fullback and will make a good one too. If Moltzen stays he will be our halfback but if not Miller will be the one . Lui has to go , besides hes defence is not up to 1st grade standard , i still can see that missed tackle on Feleti Matteo that he scored a try in the final.

Moltzen should honour his deal and the club should release him. It's not like he was negotiating behind the club back.

If Brown is used as a sacrificial lamb to exploit a technicality after Moltzen and the Tigers were happy for him to sign another contract I will be ropable.

Mitch should go, he clearly doesn't cut the same breaks a certain other players and he may as well go to a club where he will be given a fair chance to prove himself.

I guess it's all about who you know at WT…
