Brutally honest opinion on our halves

There was a kick tonight Moses put in when it was only 12-6 and we had a 5 minute run where we had the better of the play with a bit of momentum and went so far dead it could have almost put a hole in the fence, and completely killed our momentum.

That was terrible. I thought Brooks played well. Robbie was good but he did the good old hog play that is one of his pet plays as well as one of his newer plays which is the pass on the ground on the 5th tackle.

Mate, I thought it was my imagination but you're right, Robbie's pass on tackle 5 has hit the grass at least once a week in the last 3 games.

No - it's now a patented play when we are on the attack as well. You can put money on it now. 5th tackle, Tigers on the attack in the opposition red zone, backline and forwards ready to run it. Farah will pass to the ground.

He also has the hog play in him. It can be the 5th but not always the 5th tackle and he will try and score a try when he is heavily market. He has though been doing that for years.

Unfortunately it's almost impossible to gauge their quality, given the context they've started out in has been so poor.

Like trying to sprout seedlings in a tub of hydrochloride acid.

How can we gauge if they're NRL standard when most of the team around them is not.

Other young halves generally aren't starting out the same way, such as TMM.

It was smart for him to move on and if we're being brutally honest it would probably be smart career-wise for Brooks and/or Moses to move on.

Hopefully we can keep one of them and/or Teddy. Hard to see it happening though.

They both talk the talk, how about letting on field performance do the talking for you.
Tackle players in front of you. Not look for intercept, especially when on your own try line.
Not worth the money they are being paid.
At least show some value for your money.

I don't object to the intercept per se, if you don't think you can take the man, steal the ball instead. In that instance Brooks did neither, but not always the worst plan.

Luke Brooks, Mitchell Moses not worth $600K: Brad Fittler

WESTS Tigers’ poor form and that of halves Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses is likely to cost the duo any chance of significantly upgraded NRL contracts, according to Brad Fittler.

Brooks and Moses are off contract at season’s end, with their asking price said to be around $600,000 a season each.

However NRL great Fittler believes the pair are not worth anything close to that on the back of the Tigers’ 60-6 loss to Canberra on Saturday, their sixth successive defeat.

“C’mon … please ...” Fittler said on Channel Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.

“The first thing as a player, you have to be able to defend your line. They are not doing that very well.

“Luke Brooks does that pretty poorly, actually he gets out of the road a lot.

“You have to be able to do that because people can’t help you on the line.

“They most probably should start (to fix things) there.”

Having entered the season already under pressure amid the Robbie Farah saga, the heat is mounting for Tigers coach Jason Taylor.

Former Tigers lower grade coach Todd Payten, currently an assistant to Paul Green at North Queensland, has been mentioned as a possibility to take over at Concord.

Ivan Cleary is another. However Fittler said the Tigers’ problems stem from the players, not the coach.

“I think there were four or five tries scored from within five or six metres (of the tryline),” Fittler said.

“It doesn’t show much commitment.

“It is not Jason’s fault.

“They were not having a go there. It was just awful.”

Well said Brad Fittler.

He is not afraid to call people out

These players need a reality check.

Taylor might be a dud, however that display falls on the players.

It was embarrassing.

If I was Tay;or I would hang my head in the dressing room….

At fulltime I would think fair enough

Doing it at half time though was embarrassing for him I thought.

Doesn't matter how bad your coach is, there's no way players can be absolved for conceding 60 points. They are the ones out there representing the club. Is anyone going to argue that they didn't give up, and you want to pin all the blame on the coach for that? Get real.

I don't care if you've lost faith in the coach, there's no excuse for not having pride in the jersey. And its the supporters who are made to suffer.

If it was round 24 , you'd think yep , they've had enough … But a performance like that in round 8 ... The mind boggles !

I wonder what the TAB payout was on the 60-6 scoreline ??

Was sticking to topic
Obviously there were many of the team who had shockers and should be on notice or dropped
Am over seeing the halves been used has speed humps by every opposing team
How long do we accept mediocrity

Many wont agree but just listen to Taylor for the last 2 weeks and he is FED up with his halves

He has said (indirectly) they are putting pressure on the defence with poor choices in attack.
Last press conf he said both had a chance to win us the game in Extra time and couldnt and Taylor refused to blame the refs for the Forward Pass try from Storm, the trip, the penalty try to Lawrence and the hit on Teddy that led to their try.

He cant drop them either, will cop a lot of flak from tigers higher ups. Leave alone from some out here

If he can't see the problem then he should go now.
If he CAN see the problem , but doesn't have the guts to drop them then he should Resign NOW :brick:

We get belted and the halves are under the spotlight!

The way they're going I wouldn't worry too much
If they don't improve quickly there may not be much spotlight on them for quite a while.
There's not a lot of stories about reserve graders

Apparently they are annoyed that Maloney is leading the missed tackles stat and are determined to throw down the challenge

We are all saying the same things. Moses and Brooks both have undeniable talent and will become quality first graders but this will not happen at the Tigers. They are playing behind a pack that is going backwards every week, they don't have a steady hand beside them who can guide them, there is too much pressure on them to be the saviors and the media hype has been like a noose round their neck. Basically, they didn't have a chance, especially with Taylor's ineffective guidance and game plans. Brooks should be allowed to leave and the club should save cash and gain experience by signing a solid, reliable first grader that can compliment Moses.
And I will add that it was a terrible mistake to let Martin go as he is class act. He is a smart play maker, has a sound kicking game, can defend and he doesn't have a big head.

Honestly, the narrative of having two young halves who are best mates and came through the grades together is compelling, but it has hurt both of their development. We needed an experienced play maker who can manage a game to play with one of them for a season and teach them how to organise a win. All of the best halves get this, Cooper Cronk came in playing alongside Scott Hill, JT came through playing with Sherwin, DCE got it from Kieran Foran who in turn got it from Orford, Johnson got it from Maloney, Hunt learned at the hip of Lockyer (even if they weren't halves partners) and is not giving it to Milford. I think we need to cut one loose, and buy a player like Peter Wallace to mentor the other in game management for a couple of seasons.

I think the Brooks/Moses halves combo at the club is broken beyond repair, but both players are salvageable individually. Personally I would hold on to Moses of the two. I think he has shown more potential and improvement. Round 1 and 2 this season showed he can be a match winner at this level.
