WRONG!!! **there is more to it** then just trying to make room for Blair

Lets hear it then

refer to my above post.I don't think Fifita has anything to do with Blair or the cap.I believe that the Sharks are so desperate they are willing to pay overs for a guy who has only played about 30 games, and the tigers don't think he's worth it at this point in time.I think releasing McKinnon and the early retirement of Payten are good things as i believe they would have just been taking up space in 2012.Payten is finished and Mckinnon is to injury prone.IMO the only player being let go for Blair is Gibbs, something which im all for,coz if i had to choose 1 over the other i'd take Blair in a split second.Everything i have said is only based on my opinion,it has nothing to do with 'inside knowledge' nor am i trying to hint i know more then i am letting on.I can't stand when ppl do that as much as im sure you do

All good mate, just the way you worded your earlier reply made it sound that way.

the main thing is fifita is gone - we have to move on and the show must go on!

Go on then, give us a solid source - don't tell me Gibbs' twitter/facebook page.

who are you?

That is a brilliant reply.

You've really put me in my place champ, too bad you've made yourself look like a goose while you were at it. All class.

so im a goose - big deal - fifita is gone - thats it. pm me if you want to know. mods run the show - as far as im concerned if they say its cool then its cool -

actually ive changed my mind - dont pm me - you reply irks me - but anyone else is welcome - but really you dont have to - like i said fifita is gone.

I agree with AHX ever since salary caps have been introduced clubs have had to let stars go Broncos letting Wally Lewis go in 91 Brett Hodgson for us . So if we match Cronullas offer to keep Fifita and Gibbs who do we lose then . BMM Woods Fulton and others . The club has taken the right option . Sport carries no sentiment to stars and one club players unfortunately . We need to get over it and get on with it .If you want to blame someone blame the NRL for salary cap . But if we don't have a salary cap the game WILL die . Take the emotion out of it everyone . I wish both guys the best of luck for the future

Humpty budgeted on a big increase in the cap for 2012,it looks like only a $100k increase,so we are over the cap by a fair stretch, but geez,Mckinnon,Payten,Gibbs,Fifita and Flanagan definately going, and Fulton,Heighno,Moors,Daniela,Brown,Shirnack x 2 who could go,plus Cayless and TNT retiring,we must have more than Blair signed for next year.

just one more thing - its not 100% that fifita is going to the sharks - i mean who wouldnt want to sign him apart from the clubs who cant afford him.

Heighno going???? Doubtful at best…there is way too much talent in nsw and qld rugby league...queensland needs 2 Brisbane teams.. And Sydney 2 more, with another team in nsw country maybe coffsharbour or port maquette

Its all too bloody easy to walk out of a contract.

<snip>Why arent contracts binding?
Make it once its signed its signed…thats it, no going back on your word, be a man, do what you agreed to.</snip>

I wish people would get this bit, its CRITICAL to the discussion. Fifita IS NOT and never was under contract for next year. There was an option. Options can take one of MANY forms and it depends which kind of option it is as to how it works. Many form give either party an exit. It appears to me that the Tigers have tried to exercise theor side of the option to keep him at a bargain rate, he has been offered a squillion and taken the out in his option. To me this seems the obvious scenario and if it is correct then there is no blame on either side. The only choice for the Tigers would be to match the Cronulla option and it seems to me that it seems to be over the odds (as any offer from Cronulla would need to be).

So what are they saying below?

…....Another piece of good news for Wests Tigers is the extension given to prop Andrew Fifita following an agreement between Andrew and the Club to exercise an option in his current contract for the 2012 season.
>
Fifita, 21, has been a revelation for Wests Tigers since making his NRL debut in Round Two last year after joining the Club from Griffith Waratahs. Like Woods, he too was a member of the NSW Emerging Blues squad.
>
His mobility, hard work and offloads have seem him develop into a regular member of the Wests Tigers forward pack. Fifita has played 31 NRL matches for Wests Tigers and represented Tonga last year.
>
“I’m enjoying my footy here at Wests Tigers and I’m learning every day. We have a good squad here so it is exciting to know that I will be apart of that for a while yet,'' Fifita said.
>
**Wests Tigers Chief Executive Stephen Humphreys said that it was important to secure Woods and Fifita for a longer period**, especially after both players progression through the Club’s development system.......

Most league fans arent contract lawyers mate, are you saying its legalese BS....what is it?
Seems to me an agreement was achieved, he was to play here in 2012.....
Whats the go.....just more crap?

Good point Glennb…and if you are spot on then neither party is to blame...to me Fifita is not worth more than $200k **at stage this of his development**.

That is a great example of what I am saying. IMO what Humphries is announcing is the Tigers intent to exercise the option in their favour. In defence of Fafita, his comments show that he was probably happy with that, but as Cronulla have offered a squillion, he is able to exercise HIS option to get out. That announcement IS NOT an announcement of a contract, its an announcement that the TIgers want to exercise their option. Cronullas offer has taken that opportunity away. Tigers only chance then is to match it.

The Gibbs decision baffles me a little. He was hopeless for 2-3 years from 06-08, yet we continually persisted with him through it, then when he starts to show signs that he is a quality prop, we let him go.

That being said, he's far from irreplacable, and if letting him go is the deciding factor on whether or not Blair comes to the club, I'm happy with it.

So are you saying that both parties can have an 'option'?
Seems like a waste of time and when does it close?

Glenn is correct.
Ink: buy and read a basic law text. Maybe there's a "Contract Law for Dummies" out there.
Neither Fifita nor the Wests Tigers are breaking a contract. Indeed both sides appear to be exercising their contractual rights.

Im not saying he's wrong, just asking for some clarification.

Easier to be a smart arse than to put a few words together and explain something eh Monty?

Ink, its complicated (understatement). There are MANY forms of options. Sometimes its simple and the option is ONLY in favour of one party but these ar rare because if you think about it, what is the point of the other party signing that contract, may as well be additional year. More frequently its complex deal where both parties have th eoption with a range of triggers that each can use to exercise. I dont pretend to know the deal here but to me it seems clear that the Tigers tried to exercise their option and fifita has used his to get out and take the money. either way its a no blame either way and really has zero to do with Blair.
