Can anyone fault how Cleary has handled things?

It's only early, but I think he's fantastic in handling all the questions that have come his way, and even down to how he has handled Mitchell Moses. It's refreshing that nobody in the media has questioned his professionalism. If there was the slightest sign of it, the media would have blown up. The last week we've looked light years ahead of where we have been in previous years. I think this bus is going to take us into a new era. I can't wait.

No. I agree the future looks bright with, or without the guys. Looks like we actually have a "head coach"

The media target weakness which we have in spades in the management team. Cleary has the track record to speak with authority without being questioned.

I read an article today with Marina Go essentially stating she is being targeted for being female. That'll do me. We are being targeted because we have no Rugby League pedigree which, Cleary brings.

Cleary is the best thing that could happen to the club right now.

Changes will come but the club is in good hands.

She didnt say that. She said that she received more attention because she is a woman. Name 3 other RL club Chairmans without googling it and I think you will find she is right. The only other one I know from memory is Nick Politis and he has been in the role for a long, long time.

In terms of targeting, why didnt say it, I will. Buzz Rothfield's campaign against her from the day she got the job has been disgusting.

Back on topic, Cleary has been fantastic. Very understated. Lets hope he keeps it up.

Have always wanted cleary at the club, even before he signed on with Penrith, but so glad now we have him to bad we didn't get him before all this contract between "the big 4" started

Hmmm, well they did appoint Cleary didn't they and that seems to me to be a professional move. Also, you are putting a spin on what she actually said. Why don't you produce the article instead of selectively quoting?

I like how he listens to the question. You can see him processing the qualifying information with his eyes.

Seems calm and relaxed. Hoping that demeanour rubs off on a few players and employees at the club!

Agreed. Go has been targeted by certain sections of the media, and I think it has been a disgrace. Furthermore, their criticisms of her have not been supported by any specific evidence. I have always assumed that it is motivated by prejudice.

As southertiger said, Go didn't say she was targeted because of being a woman, she said she gets more attention.

It's too easy to say people are hiding behind sex or race or age, if you've not been there yourself. I don't know you obviously, but I'm a white male, what do I know about being a woman in the workplace really?

The 'interview' in question was basically a puff piece for Marina to air some problems she has with the other club chairs. She claimed she was criticised and excluded because she was a woman, rather than targeted. Again, I'm actually of the belief that she was criticised widely because of poor performance and because she is essentially a figurehead with no power or direction while the five Wests directors run the whole show.

On being excluded because she & Rebecca Frizelle are women, that's just plain wrong. They've been excluded from club chair meetings because in the first instance they were the two clubs beholden to the NRL for money at that stage and in the second instance because they stabbed the other NRL clubs in the back and voted against constitutional reform which would have benefited all NRL clubs. While she's not playing the gender card as hard as some on here have said, it's definitely high in the deck!

What poor performance, specifically? I am on the same query line as tigerbalm, does anyone here actually know for a fact that her business acumen and/or Tigers board performance is lacking?

Also do you in fact know she is a figurehead? You are telling me Mike Bailey the weather guy is the real power behind the WT board?

On the issue of being excluded from chair meetings, I don't think she said she was excluded because she was a woman. She noted that she and the other lady Frizelle were excluded from a meeting about Women's Round in league, which is pretty laughable regardless of the justification.

I don't think there is any justification for blocking any club chairpersons from game-wide chairperson meetings. Why is cutting out any club acceptable, regardless of their representative? Why does it matter that they voted against a certain reform, are they not within their rights and don't all hold a single vote? Or are some chairpersons more equal than others?

There's a delicate irony here that, if you are right, certain clubs could be excluded from meetings of power-brokers because they are viewed as being "beholden" to the NRL. In other words these people can't hold a meeting unless it's full of their own supporters, they are powerful figures in the game but the can't take on two "figurehead" ladies appointed by the NRL? How do Dragons and Knights now fit into this, also themselves having received NRL bail-out money?

You play the cards you are dealt, as they say.

Somehow, she seems to cop flak for running the club poorly as well as just being a powerless pawn - both in the media and in this very thread.

That said, I've noticed Buzz has moved on to hating on Pascoe for some reason now.
