Can the WT make the top 8 in 2023

Just noticed a thread in the topics list below entitled “Things that make you laugh”. Perhaps this thread should be combined with that one!!

So, after the past 10 years of failing to build a competitive team, the club now, i would say has already used up one season for this new rebuilding of the team.

It has been mentioned that the rebuild would take 4 years, does this mean it's a total of 5 years 6 years?, at what date did this or will this new rebuild commence?

Hastings must be resigned immediately, and add another 2 new hard hitting forwards who will play with Stefano, Pole, Matamua, Papali and add one skillfull speedster.with a bit of footy IQ in the backs, then i believe we can make the 8 in 2023.

With only two quality confirmed signings and the current squad of muppets I can not see WT in the top 8.

At this stage without any quality front rowers and centre then bottom 4 is the most likely position for 2023.

If you go by the list in Zerotackle we have 26 players signed for 2023 of which 4 are being shopped or have signed elsewhere, our top 6 take up close to 4 million. If those 4 being shopped leave there's 8 spots at about $300K a season available.
Do we shop for a few decent $500K players ( if there's any ) and fill any gap with trial or development players that will take less.
I think the period between Grand Final day and November 1 will be very interesting as teams rejig their rosters.

The problem for us is most of the new contracts that are going signed in November are for 2024

There would have to be a huge cultural shift and the addition of about 4 hardened, quality players for us to be even close to the 8.
Anything short of that and we'll be much closer to the bottom than the top.

So likely bottom 3 again.

I'm thinking there may be a number of releases in that period, a lot of clubs have internal troubles and we may be in a position to take a few of the better players that become available.
We have the luxury of not having to upgrade any player's contract because of performance bar Hastings ( and that was always a possibility ) and the discontent in Manly will see them shed a few players, then there's the Dragons, Knights, Dogs .
It's probably wishful thinking because our recruitment has been so poor of late but with luck we may get 3 or 4 solid buys to back up the 2 big signings we have.
